Here is EPA note what should be done on each MY.
The upgrade has 12 different categories depends, so there is no "1 shoe fits all"
2013 ML350 is EMC4
Thanks for this. I know what a DPF is..... but what is a DOC?

2014ML 350 Blutec
My 2014
is EMC 4 and I believe it covers 2012-2014 ML 350 and one poster with 2013 said they replaced thermostat but I don’t see where that is part of this group? I prefer they leave mine alone!

I don't think you have too many choices.
Per my understanding this is "take it or leave it" deal.
Looks like thermostat replacement was something else, but lot of things are always left to dealer discretion.
DOC > Diesel oxidation catalyst

DOC - Diesel Oxidation Catalyst. This is the new Copper Catalyst used to reduce NOX during low temperature engine cycles, and that is what this lawsuit is about. MB decided to turn off the SCR system during low temperature engine cycles and apparently EPA, lawyers etc... feel this is classified as "Cheating".

My friend got 5 letters for vehicles he no longer owns.
PO is entitled to about $900 participation, but
1. I assume the present owner has to complete the modifications
2. the notes don't explain how to qualify as PO and what happens when 5 years old vehicle had 4 owners in the time.

Oct 2022 is the deadline to do the modification then file for the settlement money.
If the car runs fine, wait as long as possible to do the modification makes sense?
If the modification cause some serious issues, hopefully in 2022 folks have found the issues and MB might improve the parts.

But there is a risk.
When modification covers only couple of parts, the FOLLOWING warranty covers whole engine top and emission system.
So if you don't do the modification and before Oct 22 something breaks, like timing chain, intake flaps - you will have the obligation to pay for the repairs.
Once you obtain the warranty - you are covered.

wait.. is this confirmed? I read it as ONLY the related emissions gets 4 year extended warranty.

The warranty has 23 points in the letter. Use links above to read it.

Yes, at least for many of the big ticket items that are engine and exhaust related.

The exact list of covered components are both on the recall website (here’s the document for my 2014 GL350, for example) and posted earlier in this thread.

I corrected the warranties number in my earlier post.
My E class fall under EMC#12 and don't get thermostats warranty, so it depends on MY
Still good coverage.

One of the reasons I am moving ahead, tomorrow in fact, is to get the coverage for the next xtra
items that will be covered after that, at least that is how I understand it and read it.

Agreed. this is like a bonus warranty for the engine and exhaust system. So long as the transmission and suspension keep OK, the car should be good for many years to come after the AEM.

Thank you all for the information in this thread. I received my letter last week.

It seems it makes most sense for me to wait as along as possible to get the modification, as my engine was replaced under warranty about 19-months ago. It's still under warranty for 29 more months. Looks like I have 19-months before I need to get the modification completed. Seems like a no brainer to wait until Sept/Oct 2022 for the update and then have another 4-year warranty.

NOx and DPF were replaced under warranty a few years back as well, so doubt they will fail anytime soon either.

I'll need to double check to see what all is covered on my 2012 after modification is completed.

I think I have too. So glad I purchased the maximum CPO extended warranty and that the engine went 3-months before it expired.

Did I read right too that Mercedes will cover a CEL diagnostic fee even if it ends up not pertaining to a warrantied part that is part of the settlement warranty?

I finally got my letter, actually two. Tell me what you think. I bought a new 2010 Sprinter Motorhome which I only owned for a year, decided it was too small for our needs. Put it on ebay and sold to a Canadian. Are Canadian vehicle involved? If not as the original owner am I entitled to any kind of pay out? Thanks for your opinion.

Yes, there is a provision for previous owners to share a reduced payout if you look carefully at the paperwork. This is a USA-only settlement so presuming that the Sprinter is still in Canada the current owner cannot participate.

only if they take it to the dealer to apply the fix AND give you a copy of the work order (need to submit)

The modifications are automatically posted by dealer on MB USA website, where you can also file the application.
When the notes say about reimbursing PO, the condition for whole process is modification. New, Canadian owner is not going to do it, so no kudos.
I did not see any note how they will proceed when vehicle had 2 or 3 Previous Owners.
