E350 Coupe Panarama Sunroof problem

I've had my 2010 Coupe since the end of July, 2009. I have around 4,500 miles. Yesterday, when opening up the screen that is under the sunroof, I heard a screaching/rubbing sound as it opened. When it opened all of the way, I tried to open up the sunroof itself but to know avail. When I tried to close the screen, it would not close by itself automatically. It would move forward, and then stop. I had to keep pulling on the control until it closed completely. It looks like the screen is "bunching" up at the drivers' side corner.

Oh well, off the dealer I go on Tuesday. Also, have heard a weird sound coming from underneath the front part of the car at low RPMs. Sort of like a ticking sound. It doesn't happen all of the time. I use nothing buy 91 octane gas and I haven't seen any loss in performance. Also, am going to speak to the dealer about the fact that the trunk opens way to quickly. Lastly, my girlfriend seems to think that the car idles roughly. She is much more sensitive to stuff like this than I am (meaning, sometimes I just don't see the idle being rough).

Anyone else experience any of the above issues?

Thanks

Well I am going to have to agree with you on the trunk opening. I have a 350 coupe too and when I use the trunk release the trunk flies open so hard it actually concerned me. Please post the MB response when you talk with them. Thank you and good luck.

Sunroof issue and trunk update

Took my car in a couple of days ago. Dealer told me that there is nothing they can do re: the trunk opening. This is a minor annoyance.

They had to order the part for the sunroof lining. They told me that they had to replace the same part on another 2010 350 coupe a few weeks ago. This better not be an ongoing problem. I will be all over MB USA if I have to go through replacing the lining a second time.

Was supposed to have the lining replaced today. Went to the dealer...part had not come in yet....they will call me at noon if it comes in.

And so it goes.....

the ticking noise you are referring to might be your purge valve. did you ask the dealer about it?what did they say.

Purge valve

Excuse my ignorance....but, what is a purge valve? Also, if that is the source of the ticking, is that a normal sound? If it is, what is the purge valve doing to cause this sound?

Thanks

i believe it purges vapors from the gas tank.it's usually an intermittent ticking most often during cold start-up.

Sunroof update

Took my car into the dealer yesterday. They replaced the sunroof liner and now everything is good as new. I asked them how much this would have cost to repair if the car was out of warranty. They told me around $1,200. They told me the best thing to do was to purchase an extended warranty policy (of course they did!). I told them that I would consider that when I reaced 45,000 miles. However, I did ask them what would happen if I had the problem with the sunroof liner again. They told me that they would contact MB and let them know that this is a possible design issue.

Well, let's see what happens going forward. Also, never did really figure out what that ticking sound was. I will wait to see if it props up again and will make sure that I take it to the dealer while the ticking is happening so they can hear it for themselves.

I must say that MB, in my opinion, has the best customer service that I have ever experienced. I owned an E320 back in 1997. After 120,000 miles, I wanted a change and something more sporty, so I decided to purchase a BMW 3 series, a car that I absolutely loved. However, I must say that BMW does not have the custormer service experience that MB does. In fact, going to BMW service is like any other car manuf. They do not make you feel special.....at all. At MB, they really treat you well.

Angry Another sunroof problem

Hey Bobcpa I had the same problem with my 2010 E-350 sunroof liner a couple of weeks back(4,800 miles) and took it to Caliber Motors dealer in Anahiem and grab a loaner car. It Took them about a day to complete this repair. Everything works fine after the repair except for a little scratchy sound it makes as it opens and closes toward the back end. What bothers me is that its the same sound I heard weeks before the liner broke. I'll keep taking it back if It continues to be a problem. JIMMY)

Sunroof issues

Jimmycrackcorn...if you have the problem again, as I will, make sure the dealer sends a note to MBUSA asking for a review of the coupe sunroof configuration....this should not be happening on a $60,000 car.

Red face sunroof issues #2

you are right about that, I will go ahead and do that if it happens again. I had 2 questions for you: 1 does your liner make a scratchy sound since they repaired it? And 2 how does the lemon law work in california?

I haven't noticed the sound that you described. I will pay attention over the next few days and let you know. Also, I don't know how the lemon law works in Ca.

Sorry to hear about your possible continuing problems. Before you get committed to the Lemon Law in CA, a lot of manufacturers will have their own buy-back program to prevent a Lemon Law buy-back which goes against their reputation.

I owned an American car about 20 years ago which leaked oil. The dealership tried 3 times to correct the problem and failed each time. I asked about the Lemon Law and they said they would do a buy-back. The dealership, through the manufacturer, bought the car back and paid me for everything I had put into the car, licensing, tax and the mileage deduction was calculated to the first reported leak. It as an excellent program and I was 100% satisfied. So before you involve the Lemon Law ask about a manufacturer buy-back.

Just a thought- but hope you don't have to go there. We love our coupe.

Same here...

Oh snap *%#!*...just happened to my 2010 E350C (1270 miles). What on earth. It seems as if the rear roller didn't activate immediately hence the bunching and ultimate jam of the visor toward the front. Hmmm....

Sunroof visor just shredded

All appeared normal for a week once the visor material caught up with the roller although activated it last night and as it retracted the material bound toward the rear and shredded. MB will be ordering the parts to replace and repair...

My liner is all stretched after only opening it a few times. It looks so cheap! I have only opened it a few times. Does anyone else agree that their liner looks cheap and all wrinkled? Do I need to have th l ook at it?

I had the same problem with the screen. The dealer was demonstrating the sunroof features after I bought the car; he was embarassed when the screen didn't open! Needless to say it took 7 days to fix the car (had to order part from Germany)! I could only shake my head in disbelief. My first Benz didn't even make it off the lot without an issue. Oh well.

My 550c just did the same thing!! was showing a friend that it was a panoroof. I pushed the button and it made an awful sound. Now the blind is bunched and wrinkled. The roof won't open either. I bought my car in August so it's an early build vehicle. I have 6k miles now.

Angry Obvious problem

This appears to becoming a problem for more folks...hmmm I wonder what to do after the repair. Will always be apprehensive about opening/closing as it happens instantaneously and is difficult to correct once the initial wrinkles have occurred. I hope it doesn't become a recurring repair item.

Did you get yours fixed? How long did it take. I actually have a small list of things that are wrong with the car. I was going to just wait it out until the first service as they were minor problems. A broken sunroof is no fun. I live in NC and we generally have pretty mild winters so it gets used often. I hate the thought of being without my baby for a week . . .

Not yet...It happened on the 23rd of December and parts need to be ordered, from Germany as others have suggested and I'm still waiting for MB Service to give me a call, hopefully this week as they quoted 5-7 days to get the part.

I called this morning and made an appointment. The lady on the phone seemed very concerned, and found a space for me to bring it in on Thursday this week. This is my first MB, and i'm not used to the wait for a loaner. My previous few cars were Lexus sedans and they have a huge loaner fleet with no waiting--even for walkins.
