Will that make the car much louder, will affect performance?

The C63 guys are ditching the secondary cats and leaving the resonators installed.

I don't think anyone on this forum has done an exhaust on a 550 yet... try it and let us know!

I had the mufflers replaced with straight pipes, after trying Magnaflows of
various types. The result was hoplesly loud and unconfortable. I had the
stock mufflers reinstalled (what a relief that was) before I traded the coupe for
the E63 (what a reilef it THAT was!).

The shop that did my work, had a CLS there with just the mid resonator (an
x-pipe in a way) replaced by straight pipes. It sounded really nice and deep but
not loud. It is simple to do and undo. I would try this if I were keeping the
coupe.
Have fun!

Did you try removing the resonators in any of the various scenarios you attempted?

Sorry for trhe late reply - spending some quality time on the water...

No, I did not remove the resonators in the coupe. I traded it for the E63
and I am happy with the sound for now. If I decide to do something to
enhance the exhaust, I will start with the resonators (I guess they would be
called "rear resonators")

Removed resonator and 2nd cats. Much louder. Big engine guys usually just delete the resonator to avoid droning. No real performance gains
