Shade for new e-coupe panoramic sunroof

I have bought the e coup in Thailand and fyi this country is super hot.

The panoramic roof have a shade with holes!!! I was wondering if there is any company that sell shade replacement without holes to protect me from the sun during day time??

As far as I've know the previous E-class have shade without holes, it would really help the heat in my car. It is way to hot to drive this car at noon!

Thanks!

Guess I'm confused, if you bought the car in Thailand and saw that the shade had holes in it and knew the country is hot, why would you buy it to begin with?

Maybe it would be easier to add a tint or semi-reflective film to the roof glass.

I don't know if I would use a solid liner on the inside, the holes allow some of the heat to pass through so you don't get too much of a build up, between the glass and the liner

I have tinted the inside of the solar glass and the film virtually melted off when I was in vegas for 2 weeks

You might want to consider tinting the outside of the solar roof. The latest mod is to lay a film of carbon fibre sheeting on the roof to give it the appearance of a carbon fibre roof, however you cannot see through this material.

You can also apply the same exterior material which is perforated similar to the sun shade and it comes in various colours.

It lasts a long time and will reject the heat and is even guaranteed for 5 years.

All these materials are usually guaranteed for 5 years and are available from any quality tinter that tints your window.

I have seen the carbon fibre done on the roof of a 7 series BMWs, and it really looks good, nothing cheap in appearance when professionally installed.

I had my window tint shop tint the inside of the panorama roof with the dark tint that is used in Limos, made a big difference.

tint the sunroof

Today, I left my car the whole day under the sun... When I tried to open the sunshade... it made some noise.
Have you ever had the same problem before you tinted the sunroof ? and after ?

Thank you

Is your car a 2010?

There were some reports of the sunshade squeaking, hanging up, binding or coming off the rollers a few months into the model's introduction.

It seems to me from researching the model for over a year that a trip to the dealer solved the issue, at least for a time.

I have not seen this complaint in the 2011's, but not too many people post about them.

Noise is not good. I would have it serviced to try to avoid the above problems.

Please let us know the outcome.

Tomorrow Im going to put LLumar tints on the panoramic sunroof....
I read on some forums that tinting the sunroof can brake the glass...
What do you advice me ?

Would you care to comment on the overall reliability of your 2010 thus far? I ask because Consumer Reports rated reliability as "Poor" for the E350 Class Coupe. (Rating for the 2010 E350 Class Sedan was "Better Than Average").

I haven't seen all that many complaints on these boards about C207 reliability issues, so just curious.

Despite CR's rating, I ordered an E350C anyway, armed with the 4 year warranty and knowing I've got a dealer with the best, most helpful
service department ever.

Thanks.

overall reliability would be ... um... average? the problems i have had were annoying but not major issues. as follows... over 33,000 miles.

sunshade screen broke - covered by warranty
driver airbag electrical problem - came up 3 times, all covered by warranty.
two sets of new rear tires
scheduled services - 3 for total of ~$900
alignment ($120), wipers ($70)

Many thanks for the quick reply. That's pretty much what I would expect for these models, perhaps even better considering it was a brand new model. Except perhaps for the rear tire wear (too much red light peel-out competition?).

Continued enjoyment.

is there such a thing as too much?

i put on a set of z rated pirellis ... that was a mistake. they were gone in 6,000 miles. there is so much power that they would spin constantly. the a/s are better and last ~20,000 miles.

Ah yes the Pirelli's. And I failed to notice that you have a 550. Awesome torque.

I'm glad MB is no longer shipping the Appearance Package with those P Zero Neros. My original test drive with that sport suspension/tire combination was less than pleasant, to say the least, from the standpoint of comfort.

Not that I expect the Michelin Primacy MXM's to be a large improvement in compliancy, but every little bit helps.

P.S.: I just noticed I mentioned to you in an earlier and different thread that I would never buy the Appearance Package because of the concrete-like ride quality from the larger rims and tires. Well, I wound up buying it anyway. These cars just don't look right with anything smaller than 18" or larger.

So, once again, MB wins and style triumphs over common sense and comfortable kidneys.

Interesting.. I actually like the p zero Nero pirelli a/s... I have had some great tires but these are fine by me. I hate continentals. Michelins are terrific tires.

Well, like the old Blues song says, "Some folks are built for comfort, some for speed." I fall into the first category. I guess if you're lucky, you can be both.

And I agree. I have never had a bad Michelin tire.

Hello all,

I tinted the sunroof of my E550 coupe with LLUMAR 95% ( the darkest film)... I regret that I can no longer see at night , it's way too dark and during the day it's useful against the sun, but anyway I talked to the body shop, they are willing to change it for Free.
I would like to know if I should put 20% or the clear one (6%).
I'm affraid that the 20% may be dark since the pano sunroof is tinted 80% from factory.

Thank you for telling me what you guys did for your cars, and how is the visibility..

Thank you again

we use the opposite percentages here - amount of light allowed in, so you have 5% on the top, which is really dark... i put 30% (or in your terms 70%) and it works great. you don't want too much sun in during the day, so if i were you i would do something darker what you're suggesting.

Hello

Im going to take off the 5% and replace it with 80%, in order to see the stars at night. What do you think ?

i think it's personal preference, although i can't see the stars at night here because of the city lights and the smog. why don't you just open it when you want to see the stars? i normally keep my screen closed at night. if it's a nice day without too much direct sunlight, it's nice to open the screen. since i only have 30% light allowed through it it's not too dark.

I'm having my car windows and sunroof tinted today using ceramic 35 film. Ceramic ti t is the way to go. No matter how dark the windows are the ceramic film reflects more of the sun. Klassy Tint in PTC GA is doing mine. They demo'd how ceramic tint works with a heat lamp. I put my hand in a wooden box with 50 carbon film and you feel the heat from the lamp, then they put the ceramic film with only 35 and it was significantly cooler. The drawback is ceramic is costing me 570 usd. This includes the p.sunroof. As soon as I get my car completed I will post photos.
