E550 Coupe
How is the ride quality on the lowered springs? I just purchased an 2011 E550 Coupe with the appearance package. I think the vehicle looks great stock but it would look better lowered. I've already had the tint and paint film installed and ordered a new all black grille but I'm the fence on lowering it.

I have an Lexus IS350 that's lowered but the ride quality is much harsher than stock. I guess I'm concerned about ruining the ride quality for appearances sake.

Any thoughts?

Don't believe you can lower an E550 as easily as the E350. E550 has Dynamic Handling suspension which doesn't let you simply swap out springs for lower ride height. Suggest you do some additional searching in the MBWorld forums.

my understanding is that the dynamic handling suspension only tightens the shocks. so, theoretically swapping lowering springs would still allow the dynamic aspect to still work. coilovers would be a whole other issue. but that is only what i've been told. not sure where one would research as the sedans are airmatic. if you look at h&r, there lowering spring application (part #52726) is for the both the e350 and e550. so maybe they're onto something....

bumping this for feedback on two things 1) any decrease in ride quality and 2) increase in reflexes/turn-in? Lower looks cool but I'm more interested in sharpening things up just a bit, but not at the expense of tossing ride Q out the window (which is often the case with springs)

I use Brabus springs to lower my E350 Coupe. I know they have a version that can fit in the E550 with air suspension. The only difference is the shape of the springs to fit in the well.

I changed to Brabus 19" wheels as well. The ride quality is a bit harder but not much really. It looks so much better and cornering that much better though.

Enclose a picture. Hope it helps your decision.

Hi Bacchus813,

Just wondering what specific Brabus springs did you use to lower your car as I have the same vehicle?

How much lower have you dropped the front and back? You mention you added 19" wheels, what are the widths for front and back and the offsets you used for each?

Thanks in advance,

The E550 coupe has Dynamic Handling suspension. It does not have Airmatic like the E550 sedan. So just be aware you are dealing with two completely different suspension setups and something designed to work on the E550 sedan may not work on the coupe. Obviously as you go up in tire size, you will be trading ride quality a bit. So if you don't mind more road feel (most people call it harsher ride), going to 19 inch tires shouldn't be an issue.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the response. However the question relates to Bacchus' E350 coupe, which I too have and was wanting the specifics he used to get the same stance.

Thanks again!

This is a very old thread. Many people have lowered there E coupes on this forum. Do some more searching and I am sure you will find your answers.

Stance SF01 staggered 19x8.5 245/35et40 and 19x9.5 275/30et45 I also used Eibach lowering springs, the ride is slightly more rough (when hitting potholes) otherwise it’s still very smooth on conditioned roads. Doesn’t effect dynamic suspension at all and more planted in sport mode.

JD,

Many thanks for the reply and your car looks perfect with the modifications.

What was the drop, back and front for the Eibach springs used?

Steven

I believe the drop was stated to be around 1.2”, I never personally took measurements, but I’d say closer to 1.4 or so.
