2011 E350 Coupe - Rattle from Rear Shelf
Mercedes Benz of Beverly Hills worked on the car and claimed that they "identified" the problem. They re-fitted the rear seat, but the rattle continued.
I took the car back to the dealership and now they say they need to replace a latch on the rear left seat that is causing this rattle - but they cannot explain why the rattle goes away when I raise the electric sunshade.
I'll be collecting my car later today and will be curious to see if they did in fact eliminate this annoying rattle.
Has anyone else experienced rattles in their E350 Coupe?

MB techs have a CD that they play that cycles through every .LFE to try and flush out a rattle. Once they identify the origin, they often put in felt spacers around the rear deck or trunk areas creating noise. Sometimes it's road noise creating vibration, other times it's the rear speakers. They did this to my car and it sorta worked and was able to see the tech do this personally. I rock my system
(it's wonderful) and still get the odd rattle or two every so often. Nothing big, but I will ask them to address this at my next service interval. I'd ask them to try the above and go from there. It takes 5 mins. Heck, call 'em and have 'em do it BEFORE you pick up the car.
Took into the dealer a month ago, they kept it overnight for some reason and were unable to hear the rattle
.Well, I will be calling them today to schedule an appt and will have the tech sit in my car to show them that I'm not crazy.

thanks anyone who can post this.
Be careful prying up the panel. Several clips around the perimeter hold it in place. Start at one end, pry up that section, and while the tool is still under the panel, slide it down to the next clip and pop that one up. Keep sliding until all clips are free. Easy procedure. Just be careful.
Also, the panel spans the width of the rear window and it is fragile.
I would not advise taking apart the rear shelf. Especially if you have the rear shade. It's quite a job and you may end up with more rattles in addition to the original one.
Remove the speaker cover and with the heel of your hand, hit the shelf in different places in an attempt to narrow down the source. Once you find it, you can add foam rubber to that spot.
The source of most rattles has either been the shade or the speaker cover.
The easiest access is thru the trunk. Hope you are a contortionist.
