Fitting Window Tint

G'day Everyone,
I booked our shiny new coupe in to get the windows tinted with a dark tint. White duco, AMG bodykit & Panoramic roof, my thinking is the girls going to look even better than how she presents now with a dark tint on. An hour later the tinting shop rings to say they're having trouble working out how to do it due to the door windows dropping down 1/4 inch when opened which according to the tint guy gives them grief trying to get the tint onto the bottom of the window.

I know it can be done as I've seen pics of other E coupes wearing dark tint, but can anyone please tell me what the trick is so I can pass it on to my tint guy?

Thanks

if they dont know how to do it, take it elsewhere. this is not your problem to try and resolve. plain and simple. they should have done enough vehicles to have crossed this bridge before.

I agree with Nauticalx. Had mine done for a yr now without any issues. Some place that knows what they are doing will not have any issue at all.

Yep inclined to agree guys, but there's only 2 places in town who do window tint & the other guy I have an issue with anyways lol. I'll wait until I get to Melbourne again.

Thanks anyway

My tint shop removes the windows from the doors. They have done it this way for 20+ years. I believe it is the only right way to do the door glass. My cars have always come out perfect.

That seems a bit excessive. Professional shops install tint without a hitch all day everyday without removing the window-especially for frameless windows, I don't see what this adds besides making the install easier. For framed windows I can understand it because it allows the sides of the window to be tinted because they are always covered by the frame no matter what position the window is in.

The film is cut with the door open and placed on the glass with the door closed. Don't bother taking out the glass or disconnecting the battery with the door closed to prevent them from dropping. It really is time to find another shop like several above me have already said, if they can't figure this out.

We just had ours tinted locally without issues. Looks great. Take it to a new shop.

Must admit your answer is the way I thought it could & should happen.
Thanks for the advice on a different shop, I'll get it sorted next time I hit Melbourne.

Hi srice:

I also live in the bay area and recently bought a 2011 E350. Where did you get your windows tinted?

Based on the reviews here I spoke with Premier, Rockymountain and also Sydney Lee, and finally am planning to go to Rockymountain for their Formula1 Pinnacle series (recommended by Matt).....

Any feedback on my choice would be greatly appreciated...since I do not have much experience and this is the first car that I will get tinted :-)

Thanks
KC
