Dumb airbag sticker...

My new 550 should be in sometime next week. I'm noticing that MB has placed that dumb "advanced airbag" warning sticker right smack in the middle of the ash tray lid. First thing I'm doing when I get it home is taking off that sticker. I'm assuming that it'll come off with a little heat but I don't want to ruin the black ash wood trying to get the glue off. I know there's a bunch of stuff on the market to remove glue, but what is everyone here using?

It's not on there with anything stronger than a normal sticker. It'll come right off. If there is some residue left, a little nail polish remover will get the job done. So will glass cleaner and/or windex.

I few months back I actually had to change out every piece of wood trim in a vehicle because of that same sticker you're referring to.

The customer drove their vehicle with that sticker for a year and when it finally fell off, the rest of the wood trim was discolored. You can't just replace one piece of wood trim in a vehicle because it won't match. So I had to to replace all the wood trim under warranty lol.

I've used nail polish with ZERO problems

However, I don't use a ton either. A small dab on a lint free rag and gently wipe away.

You've used acetone on laquered wood? Acetone "nail polish remover" is paint thinner. Play it safe, use a dab of baby oil or WD40 for gum removal...

Thanks for the reply. I'm taking it off immediately.

On my own personal vehicles, yes. Paint thinner isn't as strong as lacquer thinner so it's ok. Like i said though, i don't use an excessive amount lol.

But you are right about being safe than sorry, which is why i also recommended windex

There are several products like "glue be gone" which will easily remove the offending adhesive with no damage to the material being cleaned. I would recommend experimenting with any product on a place that won't show before a major application of anything. As a suggestion a post treatmentcoat of good furniture wax be applied to the treated area to be sure there is no residule contaminants left on the surface. After all of that ya should be good to go.

I used Goo Gone. I believe it's citrus based. My company uses it on interior parts of business jets...
