Brand New '12 E550C in Steel Grey

This is my first brand new car, and my first MB, along with my first post!

She just came in from Germany last weekend and I've had her for 5 days now.

Color is Steel Grey
Red interior
P2 package
AMG Sport package
Illuminated door sills

I forgot what else it came with but thats just what I can remember from the top of my head.

I was really looking for the c63 coupe but I told the dealer that I was looking for a daily driver too and he recommended the E550C and to be honest I really liked the look of the car, being larger than the C, along with the feel and it just seemed way more practical as a daily driver. She drives like a dream. I've already named her Stella Grey after her color. Really though, I'm not that great with names considering I named my last car Shaniqua cause she was black on black...

I do have a question for other owners though. Has anyone had a rock hit the front glass piece of their pano roof? (If you look at the roof its segmented into 3 pieces, the front piece, the mechanical middle piece and the rear viewing piece) Just as luck has it, I was on the freeway when a small little rock hit that glass piece and the whole thing shattered like dropping a hardboiled egg on concrete.

I called the dealership and they said it would cost 900 just for that piece which is really a pain in the *** considering I've had the car for 5 days and I could use that on a ECU tune or front CF lip.... I'm going to take it in to have them look at it after Christmas to make sure they have the right quote for the right part for me

Anyways, here's some pics ...before the rock hit the front pano piece.

Also, what's everyone's opinion on tinting the windows? I feel like having them non-tinted gives it a much more luxurious look as the red seats stand out more.

If I were to tint I think 35's all around would be good

NIce ride! congrats! definitely tint the windows. I hear Cali cops an be nasty about that though. Dont you guys have a law against tinting front windows at all?

How much were you able to get off of the sticker price on it?

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on a fine choice, both the car itself and the colors.

IMO, the 550 can be anything you want it to be: daily driver, fulfiller of high performance fantasies, etc. Has a more luxurious appearance and feel to it than the C coupes, even the C63.

When you say "the whole thing shattered" do you mean it actually broke into many pieces that came down into the car or onto the retractable shade or do you mean shattered as in fractured like a spider web, random pattern, etc. without actually breaking apart? I assumed - perhaps incorrectly - the pano roof was made of the type of material that would resist fragmenting into many shards.

If it really broke apart into many pieces, I'd hate to think what could happen in a rollover accident, as unlikely as that may be.

I definitely think you should tint the windows. Try to get the Huper Optik brand tint, if you can...best on the market. 35% will look a lot darker than other 35% tint.

Nice ride! I got my tinted 35 percent ceramic. Definitely reduces heat in the Georgia summer. I even tinted the panarama sunroof. Sorry to hear about the unfortunate road hazzard... Day one, someone scratched my car so I know what it feels like. Congrats anyway and happy motoring!

Nautical - I got her for 61,700 with pretty much all the options and packages except disctronic and parking assistance, I also got the 7yr/100,000 extended warranty. I had a purchasing agent at my dads company handle all the negotiations. I even got a brand new '12 black on black with just the P1 package down to $55,000 but decided to go with the one I got. Black cars are just too much to keep clean for more than 3 days after a wash. Yea cops out here are on the tints but they really rarely pull you over for just that since so many people have tints they pretty much just overlook it now, but yea there is a law preventing any kind of tinting. I have gotten pulled over more than 6 times this year for front license plate, however. Which I've always refused to put it on and just end up paying the tickets.

Benzman - It didn't shatter into a bunch of free pieces it looks like more like a fractured spider web. Very disappointing none the less. I'll get a pic up soon. All the info and resources we can get/give on these cars would only help create a much stronger network for resolving problems. So I'll post it up.

Cgib - Thanks for the recommendation I will definatley look into it.

Sinape - you have a picture of your car with the tint? I'd really like to see it!

Also, I come out to GA frequently cause I have friends that play on the SD Chargers that are from there so I'm good friends with their friends in GA too.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Nice!

We feel the same way about the front plate: just ruins the looks!

Your insurance should cover it with little or no deductible. It's a random comphrensive event so it should not change your rates.

I couldn't get a picture of the damage to the pano roof but it ended up costing $1650 to fix that front panel. Insurance did cover it without affecting my rates.

I had my new badges put on today and I got the windows tinted too.

I'll have a pic of the whole car after 48 hours after the tints dry and I get a car wash =)

Congrats cyberlazy, I'm sure the anticipation is just teasing you.

Hi,
what was the msrp? 61,700 and the 7/100 warranty seems like a smokin hot deal. So very curious on msrp/ how big of a discount.

Thanks

I want to take pics in better lighting cause this coat is so hard to capture accurately. The whole car is like the color of the last fender pic, it just reflects its surrounding colors very well.

color?

Yes, more pics please.
Is there a blue tint in some conditions? Some of the pics seemed a little blue.

Our vehicle's badges were "dealer option": they installed before the vehicle was delivered.
RayGT3 was the first to install from what I know. I believe the badges are OEM on a 2012 CLS63.
Do a search under Ray's or my screen name and you'll find more info and photos.
