Where are the horns?

Can someone please tell me where are the horns? I could not see it when I open the hood.

Are they behind the hockey DRLs and I need to open the fender liners to look for them?

They seem to be below the inner lights:

Thanks. I am going to check them out tonight. I have a spare PIAA horns from my previous W203 that are louder than the OEM.

I see whether I can just remove them out easily.

Just checked. I could not see the horns when I opened the hook.

Looks like either remove the fender liners or remove the bumper in order to get access. Removing the fender liner is easy just 3 push clips and a few bolts. I will try and see and report later.

I have those PIAA sports horn which are plug-and-play.

http://www.intakeone.com/Exterior/Piaa_horn.htm

You just disconnect the those 2 female connectors from the horn wire on each side and re-connect to the new horns.

This is what I have done on previous W203. The horns are just behind the front grill.

The PIAA horns seem to have the same loudness as the OEMs (useless).

I have no problem removing the passenger side horn BUT anyone has an idea how to access to the bolts that holds the driver side horn? Looks like, I have to remove the front bumper.

I am thinking putting the Hella Supertone there. My Toyota has the Hella ones, they are loud (at least people know I am beeping the horns).

The driver side horn can only be accessed from the bottom of the car because the wiper fluid reservoir gets in the way. I had to remove the driver side horn when replacing my DRL's.

Strange, when I pried off the fender liner, I saw the bolt(s) that was blocked by the metal frame (near the side marker area). I removed the side marker, but it was impossible to use any tools to gain access to the bolt to uninstall the driver horn.

Are you saying, you have to remove the bottom plastic piece (facing the ground???) in order to gain access there?

Can you please try your best and describe a little bit in details how did you remove the driver side horn?

Yes, you must remove the plastic piece on the bottom, the horn is bolted to the impact bar with a 10mm bolt. With the car lifted up and plastic guard removed you should be able to see the bolt holding the horn to the impact bar. It's the same on the coupe and sedan. I'll look through my pics to see if I have a picture showing the location of the horn and bolt.

Is this bolt facing upward or downward or parallel to the side marker?

The bolt on the passenger side horn is facing parallel to and below the side marker. I have no problem removing it.

Do you know how to remove the bottom panel?

One more thing, do I need to remove the washer fluid tank in order to access the horn?

Thanks.

The driver side horn bolt is located similar to passager bolt, sorry i can't remember which direction it was facing. There are several 8mm bolts holding the bottom panel in place, once you them the bottom panel will come off. With the bottom panel removed you will be able to access the bolt with the washer fluid tank in place

Strange, how come I could not see them when I pulled out the driver side wheel fender last time? I am gonna to try next time.

Are the bottom panel easy to remove? Any special tricks?

Anyway, thanks for all your help.

The bottom panel is very easy to remove, once the bolts are removed it should fall out.

Once I figure out how to remove the driver side horn, I'll go and buy the horns.

Thanks.

I tried removing the driver's side horn yesterday. It was impossible to gain access to the bolt that metal plate from the horn attached to the metal frame body.

I took off the wheel fender lining and the bottom panel. The bolt was located at a weird angle that the front bumper must be removed (probably even the head light as well). I put everything back and gave up.

Now, my new Hella Supertone horns were installed to the BMW. The installation was much more easier.
