I've been wondering if the constant subtle popping/shaking from the motor at idle is normal or if you guys are experiencing a completely still vehicle at red lights. There is a noticeable shake in the passenger compartment from the 550 motor and wondering if this is normal. Thanks

The 6.0 L V8 shakes like a mother smurfer in my GTO. But then that pushrod is also pushing over 500HP.
I would expect the V8 in the Mercedes to be very very smooth.
Motor mounts, maybe?

2012 E550 Coupe
The only time my 2012 E550 shakes at idle is if I start it up on a really cold day (25 F or less). This only lasts a few seconds and then the motor smooths out. After that it is hard to tell if the motor is running or not.

I believe this shaking is caused by the car being stopped while on a very slight slope. I had a E550 sedan and now the E550 coupe. Both cars, shook side to side slightly at the same red light by my house at the same exact location. Next time notice if it's happening at the same spot, if so, it's not the car, it's the angle the car is sitting at. If you take it to the dealership, they won't find anything wrong with the car.

No shaking in mine whatsoever. My 2012 E550 Cabriolet is purrfectly smooth at idle. I had a 2002 Cadillac Deville that shook just like you describe with the highly overrated 4.9 L Northstar V8, so I know what your talking about. And all Cadillacs did it. You need to see the dealer about your MB. It should not be shaking.

In my previous reply, I stated that my 2012 E550 Cab is as smooth as glass at idle, but, unless I am mistaken, I now realized that this phenomenon has only been reported by owners of 2010 and 2011 E550's, a completely different engine than mine.
This shaking could be inherent in the earlier E550 like it was in my 2002 Deville (they all did it). Any 2012 E550 owners also seeing this shaking? I have not.

Tonight was my "new owners' clinic" at the dealer. I asked the tech about engine vibration. He said they have seen vibration on some E550s. Apparently the engine mount is hydraulic and if there's a hydraulic leak or not enough fluid, this can be the source of vibration (not enough damping I suppose.) He suggested that I have it checked at next service. Now I realise that I am 8k miles away from a service so I may have it checked before then.
