eBay Rear Spoliers for Cabrio
Hello!
I was looking for the easy to install rear spoiler for the cabrio while I found some sellers for the coupe versions ($100 unpainted, $150 painted) and they said it was for the coupe only.
is the trunk on the cabrio and the coupe any different?
Thanks!
tegu

Back to the OP! I would never purchase any spoilers from ebay. I would also recommend that you purchase the MB one...just make sure it is firmly attached.

By reading your other posts on the spoiler. Respondents have already explained to you that the spoiler has nothing to do with build quality...that it is added at the port and that it is only installed with double sided adhesive. Very hot weather would certainly affect the adhesive. Also, if the trunck deck was not entirely free of wax or anything else before the double sided adhesive was installed it would not hold. I would assume that you went to the dealer and had it reinstalled. Has it come off again? The alternative and a method used by many manufacturers is to use screws mouted through the trunk deck which of course leaves holes if you or a future owner wants to remove the spoiler. Unless your in Canada the US price listed on MBUSA for the spoiler is $300 not $600.

And as far as I'm concerned, I don't care where the spoiler was added, all I know is that I paid for the part to be installed and I expected it to be properly attached when I picked up my car. The fact that it wasn't implies carelessness to me.

Your post clearly states that you paid $600 for the damn thing that fell off meaning the deck lid spoiler. Did your roof spoiler fall off too? Sorry, but in my opinion your post was meant to be misleading.

Yes thanks, I did read the other posts. I was responding to the guy who said ask your mb dealer, in my other thread I said MB have suspended the part thus purchasing it from your MB dealer is not an option. And I ordered a dual spoiler kit (roof and trunk) which was $600.

^^ agreed - you can buy it, just it is 1/3rd the price for an ebay spoiler as it is from the dealer, and you have to paint the one from the dealer ---
so my last question is the shape and size of the trunk the same for the cabrio and the coupe? Thanks!

Yes it is the same part.

Thanks Duane for this info. I was 99.9% sure that the part was still available. Between this forum and the W212 forum there are hundreds of owners with the factory spoilers installed and I have never read another post with one falling off.

I've had two dealerships tell me the item has been suspended. You may be able to order items that they still have in inventory but no more are being produced. (I'm only passing on info I have received), I've been trying to have my rear spoiler replaced for 3 weeks no but can't find anyone with them in stock.

It appears np888 that you may be the only Mercedes Benz owner who has had the availability of the part suspended.

i took my Coupe in for service today and just out of curiosity I went to the parts department and ask the parts guy if I couls order a spoiler for my 2012 E Coupe. After running it through the computer he stated that he could in fact order the part. It would come unpainted and would cost $300.

All I want is to have my spoiler replaced.

the cabrio trunk is slightly different to the coupe, there is a small 2mm hump on the lid above the brake lights, so small spoilers will no adhere either side of it.
however if the spoiler is bigger with a "perch" area then it will fit, or the bottom will need to be sanded slighty to fit. Genuine 3m d/s outdoor mounting tape is recommended.
Another point gentlemen, i have fitted a test spoiler on two W212 saloons, one fitted perfectly and the other was off by 2mm either side, so that leads me to think that different manufacturing plants depending on how long the mould stamp press was used(worn down) will affect the consistency of the steel trunk.
