great!!
im just a bit stuck though.
iv had a look how to get the air boxes open, two star screws easy peasy then theres a strange looking star shaped screw that iv never seen before. is this a special mercedes tool job?

Probably not, I'll take a guess and say it's a Torx head. Look up Torx to see if that's the tool you'll need. I'm not sure what you mean when you say "two star screws", is that a Phillips head?

Ok ill look for the torx tool. Its not a phillips head but to me it looks like a star. I think it might be called a hex screw. Either way i can get them off no problem its just the torx one i need to get a tool for.

it will be a hex mate, I took the boxes off mine and had a totally sealed paper filter on each box so couldn't fit the K&N's at all, might be different for you though I don't know.

Typically, after market air filters such as K&N are designed for freer airflow and a slight (5-10?) HP bump.
However (as you can tell by this string) it's not always easy or advisable to replace a factory air filter...
Hope this helps.

Just let you guys know that... by installing K&N high flow air filter or mushroom/cone will decrease your torque at low RPM. They are claiming you can gain 20~30 Horse power by installing those kind of products. But those horse power will come out after 6000 RPM. which we won't reach that RPM at daily driving. If it is your weekend car or track car, go ahead. But if it is your daily drive I would suggest factory paper filter. I have done this to both my E53 and E30. both cone and factory intake box filter. Now I would only install factory paper filter since a factory setting car can smoke my car at low speed... Oh, They decrease your mileage like CRAZY too.
More air in= Not going any faster and burn more gas plus lose your torque.

I installed K&N filters and absolutely love them. I have no complaints, do not see any decrease in torque, feel the car a bit faster (obviously nothing insane but something) and my MPGs have gone up. I highly recommend them.

I have also noticed low torque at low rpm. but slight increase in sound. Love it, especially if you have exhaust system which sounds strong at low rpm, like i have.

Maybe the low restriction filter has an effect on the 4 and 6 cylinder vehicles, but I doubt it would hurt a BiTurbo V-8. Weistec and RennTech sell these for the BT.
