Chrome trim removal

Has anyone ever taken the chrome trim off of the doors? Are they just stuck on or are they on poppers??

I haven't taken mine off yet since I won't have the car for two more months, but many have on here and they say it is just stuck on with two sided tape. That's the same answer I got from the parts man at the dealership when he looked it up for me. I'd think a heat gun and gentle pulling would have it off easily.

Lovely jubly! That what i wanted to hear. I did have a little tug around and noticed the doublesided tape bt wanted to be sure before i pulled it off to make sure there wasnt going to be any holes left in the door or somthing. Is the emblem at the back the same? Or are the little pin holes?

I haven't read any comments on taking the emblem off, and not asked at the dealer either, so have no idea. Let us know if you do it!

Sweet ride. The white looks so clean against the pano black roof. I want to take the BlueTech badges and chrome off mine as well. Did you use a heat gun, hair dryer, or nothing at all to remove those? Thanks much.

i just used a hair dryer to warm the glue up as i went along. i managed to get the chrome off without damaging it or bending it. then i just used some T-Cut to get the marks off. i de badged mine myself as well just do the same thing. heat it up and pull it off. just take care. i wrapped the chrome around the window as well to match the windows and roof. Do you need to the trims off for wrapping? If so, how?

No I wrapped them while they were still on the car. No bubbles or wrinkles either so looks like the trims were ment to be that colour. Blends in excellent with the bottom of the mirrors, roof trim and rear window pillars.

I believe the most difficult part is to cut the edges near the paint surface. I did this on my BMW but I still could not avoid the scratches from the cutter. If I know how to remove the trims, the job would be 101% perfect.

Did you wrap the door silver chrome handles as well?

After looking your 2 pictures "before" and "after" regarding the chrome door trims removal, I am thinking doing the same. I know those trims are easy to remove by spraying some Goo-Gone. It looks very clean and much more sporty.

Anyway, you did a good job.

Looks like your car is 2011 model, did you change the steering wheel as well?

Any modifications to the interior lights such as LEDs?

The steering wheel is a 2012 model here in North America.

Did you change the map lights (above the 2 circular lens) to LEDs as well under the rear mirror? If so, how did you able to take them out?

I changed everthing to leds already "EXCEPT" the map lights. It was a pain to find out how to remove those little bulbs. I know they are halogen bulbs (yellow). Are yours leds?

Just remember, the cornering lights are still halogen as well (H7) and I have no idea how to access to housing with the tight space. I would just leave them alone.

Iv got 8000k headlamps D1S and the H7s are 7500k

Which led bulbs do you use for the H7? I believe they must be Canbus, right?

Did you modify the reverse bulbs as well? I am using the cree projection bulbs (5W) for that. It helps shining the object from behind and more visible seeing from the command screen.

I changed my reverse bulbs long time ago. I got the bulbs from a local store here and they were canbus as well.

To replace the regular reverse bulbs to the leds, all you have to do is the same way that you did replace the license plate bulbs except you have to "fish" your hand to the reverse lamp area for changing the bulbs.

Here is an example of the cree projector bulb:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/501-W5W-GE...-/221053649396

You can do a google search and find out how bright are those cree projector bulbs. The bulb base should be W5W (T10).

Yes. You must get the canbus (NO Error) ones due to the watt is different.
