Hey Caker are you experiencing any problems with your distronic after switching out the grill. I recently switched to the same grill but i'm getting the Pre-safe functions currently limited/Distronic inoperable message. The message is not constant but happens several times durring a 1 hour drive.

I figured the grille is least likely the cause of my problems. I cleaned the disc once i started getting the errors, i guess i'll put the factory grille back in and take it in for service. Thanks.

Thanks!
Let us know how it turns out, I'll keep an eye on mine and experiment this weekend.

Lovin' the car bro. I'm in Toronto and recently purchased a 2010 diamond white 550. You've inspired me to do some mods as well. I absolutely love the new steering wheel and the grill.
Looks wise you're giving Gavrocool a good run. At least in my humble opinion.
If you could post a link to the information on the steering wheel swap I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks and keep posting pics.

No dashboard messages, but I'm stuck in sport mode which has made my gas mileage terrible :P
I contacted KW, they said they don't offer a EDC cancellation kit for this car, but they suggested a procedure involving the resetting of the ECU and temporarily hooking up the stock struts. I've also debated buying a EDC cancellation kit for another car and trying it, but those cost a lot of money and there's no guaranteed result.
I'm currently working on my own work-around, I won't say what it is until I know it works. If successful it'll be reversible and car can be put back together 100% stock. I'll post as soon as I get a result, could be this coming weekend.

The second kit is our KW DDC coilover kit, this is a direct electronic suspension replacement and will plug in to the cars ECU so you will still have 3 levels of suspension adjustment by using the adjustment button already installed in the car. Lol, go figure. I'm still going to try and fix this myself, but thanks for the heads up. I'd be really interested to see if they actually have an ESD kit.

I mentioned that I'd give an update when I figured out the suspension problem where I'm stuck in sport mode, but I havn't done anything lol. After some more thinking I realised that the solution I was planning would just put the car back in comfort mode and not likely allow me to switch back and forth with the button.
I havn't found any EDC/DDC cancellers or anything yet, so I'm going to leave it as is. I've started to use the steering wheel paddles for upshifting and am actually getting better mileage than I was in comfort mode before! A little more work, but it gets around the problem.

Your story sounds a lot like mine. I returned to the US (Houston) from the Middle East in July of 2012 and left my Porsche with a dealer to sell for me. In the meantime I wasn't sure what I wanted to purchase once I was back. I have owned several Mercedes before from a 280CE, 300CD, 380SL, and 560SEC but I didn't have an MB product on my mind. After a couple of weeks my wife found a 2010 E550c, Indium Gray Metallic with Cashmere Beige interior. It was highly optioned, maybe everything except the wood steering wheel which is not really my taste anyway. The car was CPO with 9000 miles. I foreigner wanted a short term lease but no one would do it so he had to purchase the car. He was only in the states for one year. So we go to look at it and my wife was more excited than I was. Love the E class but thought the SEC looked sportier than the E550c, then I drove it. I knew right then in there I wanted that car!!! This was a Thursday, the Dubai dealer sold the car earlier that day but I didn't find out until Friday morning (time deference). The funds were wired and in my account by Saturday and I picked that baby up that day. Started a new job on Monday and was already looking like a superstar my first day. I never got around to doing much other than adding a carbon fiber spoiler to the trunk. I did hate the MB wheels just never had the time or money to change them since I already had an old Porsche as a restore project. I did love that car! I do remember on two separate occasions at night, maybe a month apart, some guy in his new M3 try to take me on at highway speeds. He lost both times!!!
Had the car for 2 years and had to sell it to purchase a new house and a Fiat 500 for my wife. I ended up leasing a CLA250, the interior wasn't much different size wise but huge difference in power, handling, etc. I always wondered how much better the CLA class would have been with RWD instead of FWD or ALL WD in the CLA45.
