Why does my E-class have the same interior as a C-class?

I'm starting to realize that purchasing this car was a mistake. I could have had a C350 with the exact same options as my E, and saved $20K.

Instead of purchasing, I should have leased this car.

I respectfully disagree

We have both a C and an E. I have driven my wife's C on a few long trips. I just got my E two weeks ago and while there is a "family resemblance", I do not believe they are the same.

There is considerably more room in the E and if you were to switch off between the cars, you would start to see the difference. Also, some of the switchgear is definitely upmarket in the E. Climate control would be an example.

See if you can get an extended test drive in a C and you will see what I am talking about.

I really like driving the C, but I could not do it every day.

I assure you that you did not make a mistake. Enjoy the car!

I've sat in a C350 coupe, and if it wasn't for the analog climate control, I wouldn't have been able to distinguish it from an E coupe.

I do enjoy the car, but I find myself missing the power my old SRT had. Looking into getting a C63.

Understood. You can see that we have SRT experience. I just came out of my 300 SRT8. I would have went for another one, but I didn't want another NAG1 5-speed car. The new 8 speeds are probably not going to be available for at least another year.

If the size works for you, the C63 is a great way to go. We were considering 911's. The C63 has all of the speed that car has, with a back seat you can actually put people you like in to, and still stay friends.

Dimensions-wise, the E63 is within fractions of an inch the size of my old 300 SRT8. This E63 has a tough act to follow, as I put almost 85,000 miles on the 300 with zero problems.

The interior of the C class is one of the main reasons I chose the E over a C63 coupe. Driving them back to back I found them quite different. The E looks better in/out as well, just a shame we couldn't get that AMG motor

the climate controls on the c class, shared with the cls and even the sls amg is a joke and a half- dials and all. now the 2014+ e class has got the same crap. the command and audio is almost identical as well as the speedometer display, is pretty disappointing to see a cheap vehicle like the c share all this. i noticed that the dash material is cheaper in the c, not as good looking, also the leather, so all is not lost.

The E series cabriolet shares the same size chassis as the C class and not the E class saloon, When Mercedes decided to move the cabriolet up market by pushing it into the E class range, but they still kept the c class chassis, which is a bit of a cheat. Having said this the E class cabriolet is different in many ways to the C class range, not just in body shell but suspension and other components. The interior design is more upmarket overall......

Recently had a C loaner while MB worked on some power steering issues (they ended up replacing reservoir, pump and the whole steering column to eliminate a phantom whine). I do understand that there are similarities with the interiors, but the E has just that much more refinement to it's interior. Obviously biased, but I think you made the right choice!

I have both - you're nuts! Ps. if you leased, you wouldn't be able to get rid of the car for 6months under terms of the lease. At least you have the option to sell.

C does have more room in the back, which is terible in the E (especially when u are over 1.80m)

sit in a 2009 C class and compare to a 2012 E coupe.. that was the difference then..

but C class needed to stay competative with ATS, 3, A4.. thus they upgraded interiors.

Ultimately both are luxury cars.. not a Kia.. they both should have nice interiors.

Having said that.. I like the interior of my E coupe.. but the real reason I bought it was for the M278 engine and its weight compared to any other v8 turbo german competitor.

Even if my coupe had my W211 E55 interior.. i still would of bought it. MPG and Power could be more in sync as with this engine.

really ? i had the C & now the E... especially hight is a problem. plus the E sits only 2 in the back.

It's the one thing about the car that bothers me & might make me switch to the 4 door next year...
