Transmission Fluid Location?
I am looking to have the transmission fluid changed on my next MB service. However, I am skeptical about dealers actually changing the fluid. Is there a way I can verify that the fluid was actually changed?
I understand that the transmission fluid can only be accessed from the underside of the car, correct?
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Richard
I would not consider using alternatives which would be cheaper, but that has to be your choice. Labour cost is typical Mercedes prices????
You will probably only change the fluid once or twice in the ownership window and for peace of mind I would keep it Mercedes original.
Owning a top end brand comes with top end running costs, you could go to an independent who will do it cheaper but one thing I would insist on is that they use original Mercedes fluid and not an alternative.......
I had a BMW 6 series before this car and the transmission fluid was the dollar equivalent of $46 per ltre here in the UK, and I know from friends in the States that pricing is not dissimilar, so I would think Mercedes was not far off the mark......

Agreed - I've no problem with MB doing the work - I'm not sure I would be comfortable taking it to a third-party anyway. Just surprised at the cost of a 'fluid change'. thanks for the explanation - that helped!

You can buy the WIS /ESRA/ EPC on the net ie Ebay.
Unfortunately Mercedes have been quite clever (or not) with how they manage access to their technical data, unlike BMW which came on a single disc which could be loaded onto a PC without recourse to any other software, whereas Mercedes require the use of Java, so when you buy the software make sure the person who is selling it has the knowledge to load it onto your PC. You also need to ensure you watch the revision changes on JAVA as the Mercedes software is updated with each revision of JAVA.
You can as a private individual have online access to the parts catalogue for a period of twelve months at no cost, just register.
The reason I say all of this is that I have the WIS but it does not allow cutting and paste.
