Changes to 2016 E550C

Picked up 2016 E550C on June 30th with 16kms (10 miles on odometer) - dropped off 2012 E550C lease end.

Black Odsidian/Black Nappa - One fine automobile.

1. Still getting used to Direct shift on steering column as opposed to shifter in the console. Still keep reaching for the console shifter.

2. Command software great improvement - quite modern look and feel now with dynamic icons.

3. Flat and larger dash buttons with chrome separators - I quite like it. Have seen posts in the E sedan forum and some prefer the previous buttons. See photo

4. Multi contour seat bottoms seem a lot firmer even with controls to off position. Maybe a little too firm, I'll see.

5. Contrasting stitching on seats (white) no longer used. Too bad, I found the white stitching quite attractive. See photo - looks ordinary to me now.

6. Thin chrome strip gone on body sides - much cleaner look now - always looked like an afterthought to me before

7. Nice two tone finish on AMG wheels - outer rim a medium gray and hides brake dust so not cleaning every two days.

8. And of course those eye catching led intelligent headlights lights.

Thanks for sharing the feedback / comparison.
How is the drive relative to your 2012?

Your second point, you mentioned 'dynamic' icons - just curious how they are dynamic.
My 2010 is starting to look (visually) quite dated, although still fully functionally.

Hi C230Brit,

Comparing the drive between my 2012 and the 2016 there is a definite difference in the feel of the suspension.

2016 has Dynamic Handling Package - 2012 did not. I found the '12 mushy and front suspension would often thump even when rolling over speed bumps at low speeds.

2016 in 'Comfort Mode' stable, firm (not too firm) is a very satisfying ride and no more thumps over speed bumps.

In 'Sport Mode' - quite a difference, good sporty controlled ride and fairly flat in the turns - even the steering feels quicker. I noticed the difference right away between the two cars.

Me alone in the car 'Sport Mode' and when my wife is in the car 'Comfort Mode' - she finds it 'bumpy' in Sport.

The Command software is quite an updated look from the '12. When I said dynamic, better description would be 'active'. For example when radio tuning, station lists are boxed in active or floating icons and screens - when you turn the knob they flip like screens or pages on a phone or iPad - a contemporary look.

Still quirky when flicking between Command functions but pleasing appearance.

Thanks for the feedback - I can't say I've noticed a mushy suspension, but the car (my 2010) does seem to pronounce every bump (especially since I drive 99% in Sport mode) - so I can agree with that.

Thanks for the explanation of the command screen - from your description it reminds me of (I think it was called 'Cover Flow') browsing music in iTunes...
I'll look for a video on MBUSA - I'm sure there is one floating about somewhere.

Thanks again.

The chrome strip was removed on 550's starting MY2014 with two tone wheels available same year.

It looks like they also changed the radio control panel from 2015 to 2016.
