I just looked at two 2014 E350 Cabriolets. One has the Lighting Package with the cool LEDs that run in "S" patterns on the lights, the other does not. The dealer said that the Lighting Package has special LEDs that change from low to high beams automatically.
His explanation on the difference from the standard headlamps was kind of all over the place, however. I think he settled on the idea that both standard and the Lighting Package had LED-based low beams/main headlights, but the standard had halogen high beams.
Is that correct? Having a hard time finding an answer via Google or mbusa website.

If memory serves me correctly, the standard lighting is xenon. The Intelligent Lighting Package with the LEDs work very well. The only issue is that at low speed on dark roads, you have to turn the high beams on manually. I love the automatic operation, otherwise.

According to the datacard, it has "Static LED Headlamps." So it looks like the standard lights are static (no curve turning) LEDs, but I still don't know what the High beam/Low beam is - are they both LEDs?

Remember that the upgrade lights turn with the steering wheel and auto follow the car in front of you to light up the road without blinding them. The also auto bright /dim when you are on the road and no oncoming traffic is coming. Plus they look amazing! It was a $1700 option in 2014 and well worth it!
OK, my 2014 A207's datacard clearly says "Static LED lights." I do not have the adaptive lighting or the lighting package with the cool LED "S" shaped lines in the headlights. But I park in a garage with a "spiral" up and down to the various levels, so I turn the entire time I go down to the bottom floor. I just watched while driving and my LEDs are clearly turning with the curves just like my old W211's Xenons did.
Got a guy from my office to watch from outside. He said it's hard to see because they're so bright, but he thinks the lights don't actually "turn," it's as if they damper or focus differently to do the same thing.
Just an interesting anecdote.

The static lights do not move, hence static. It might look like they are moving due to the change in height of the spiral causing different lengths between left and right light. To really test it you can pull up to a wall perpendicular and turn the steering wheel without moving. Mine moves with the LED package, the standard does not.Originally Posted by RickyEarl

ExploreI am sure you're right, but I've now tried it in different spots and they look like they move when I turn. Haven't found a dark enough place to do the steering wheel test.

The easiest clue is when you start the car at night the headlights recalibrate which is quite dramatic. You can miss it if you have active headlights. Looks really cool too!
