2010 e550 starter REPLACEMENT?
mostly it works fine, but i dont want to get stuck so i think it needs to be replaced or repaired.
i have been told the exhaust needs to come off to get to it, but i have read if you take off the motor mount you have adequate access.
the dealer tells me $785 to do the job. hahaha i asked him does that include a ******* from his wife hahahah.
i just wondered has anyone else had issues with the starter, and has anyone actually replaced it.
*****es want me to bend over and pay 785 for a fricking starter replacement?
i'll sell this piece of **** before i pay that and buy a chevy.
who wants to buy a nice E550 coupe with only 34000 miles, got some nice AMG wheels on it.
If i remember correctly our engine has the starter on the coolant reservoir side. Ill take a look this weekend but i am pretty sure it can be removed without messing around with the exhaust or engine mount. There was heat shielding there that you could remove which would probably make it a lot easier.

On the cost of a new starter, the price the dealer is quoting you includes labor. A new replacement starter itself only costs around $150 to $160. So see if you can find a competent indy shop with knowledge of Mercedes and see if you can save a few bucks. Just don't be surprised if you're still looking at over $500 from an indy shop as well. Depends on how much they have to disassemble and then re-assemble to swap out the part.

I've seen a bunch of starters go bad they were have issues with the windings in the
coil.. But its slightly unfair to blame MB for a failed starter, they are made for Mercedes by Bosch
+1 on Paul's comment i would be surprised if you found a est under 500
