Traded my E550 Cab
Well, the Call of Wild was answered and traded out of my cab for a new Porsche 911. Owned the car for 30 months from new, but it was just time to let it go. Some things I loved about the Mercedes, others I really disliked.
In the end, it really wasn't for me, and I didn't get that sad feeling when you sell a car that you've become attached to. The 911 is totally different, hopefully it will scratch the itch.

ffr and SnakeDr- yes, quite the jump. Wanted something very fun, but the decision was not easy. it is a new base 2017 C2 with manual transmission. It has about $15k worth of various, popular options, which is what they call a light spec on a 911. I also own a Cayenne Diesel, which is an amazing SUV...so good they may buy it back.

Very nice ride! I've always loved the 911! Was the MB AMG GT something you considered before going with the 911? I would likely be shopping the Porsche 911, Jaguar F-Type, and the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT if looking for similar vehicle.

Thanks very much. I needed to stop the spend at around $100k, so that took out the MB. Plus didn't really love the design. Really shopped the Jag. So gorgeous, and in R Type is available in AWD, which would smoke my 911 in a straight line. Issue with the Jag was the cockpit is really small. Seating was way too cramped and not comfortable for me at all. All three are great, just a matter of preference and your needs. Let me know if you have any more questions...took me awhile to make the decision to part with the Benz.

1. Engine power- it was amazing, but you needed to take it out of E and use S mode to really enjoy it. Sounded great too.
2. Loved the how MB makes a convertible- great air flow management.
3. Harmon Kardon radio.
4. A few minor glitches at the beginning, but proved reliable over my ownership period. MB treats you like a rock star.
5. Lots of compliments- people loved how that car looked.
Dislikes:
1. Uninspiring chassis- was fun to accelerate fast, but you just didn't feel like maintaining the pace. Not fun on back roads.
2. Front brake rotors are known to warp, so you take it easy on the car.
3. Kind of old school dash, emergency brake pedal and column shifter.
4. This was the major issue- the 18' AMG wheels are totally incompatible with the chassis for normal roads. They bang, clunk and return a really bad ride over minor road imperfections. Just amazed MB released that car in that configuration. My 911 rides so much better with 20" wheels, because they took the time to tune the suspension to the wheel type. You may have a different opinion, so try it out.
5. Front seats looked more comfortable than they actually were. In the almost three years I owned the car- I could never remember what those little wheels would do, so I'd just fiddle until I was more comfortable.

Keep in mind, my car was a cabriolet, so you'll have to see what applies to your needs.

Interesting observations about the likes/dislikes. I have a '14 E550 Cab. Despite the few downsides, I love this car. It's stunningly beautiful (Lunar blue with a white interior of upgraded leather and dark blue top). It's a rare car and it's a head turner. I get a lot of compliments and questions about it. But, my desires about performance do not match yours. I'm probably a lot older than you and the 550 Cab in sport mode gives me all the performance an old fart like me can handle. It looks like the 550 is a thing of the past for this model, so my timing was right. I would not opt for a 400 as the 2018 will be. Congratulations on the new 911.

Thanks for the discussion and additional posts. I have a very good condition 2002 clk 320 cab with 75000 miles and am planning on replacing it with a 2015 or 2016 e 550 cabriolet in the near future. I actually am in reverse order of the original poster, I had a Porsche 911s cab, and
thought it was an amazing vehicle. However in the Midwest, the great windy roads are far and few, and traded it after two years and 20000 miles for a
(gasp, crowd murmur), E blutec sedan! I am looking forward to driving the e550 cab as an upgrade
to the clk 320. I am going to go the cpo way to avoid any unforeseen early ownership costs.
