2014 coupe strong trunk smell
getting a strong smell coming from the trunk liner and also under the dash area, not rancet or moldy, just very annoying

No its not wet or dirty in any way shape or form. Its a certified car with 40k mi. Just has that car kind of sour smell. Whats interesting is when closed up and A/C on it smells fine. If I pop open the sun roof, this smell seems to come only out of the left side dash vent. If I close the vent , its OK. Dealer checked under engine for any leaks and alls good. Like I said, this car is like new, off the showroom floor from VERY high end Mercedes dealer. Is there something inherent in the materials used in the under dash and trunk floor cover and linings that over time if closed up starts to emit a smell?

Well I'll give you two ideas. 1. Franz left his lunch in the vent system when he built the car or 2. You have a dead mouse in there somewhere. I'm leaning towards the latter.
Perhaps that's why the car got returned with 40K on the clock.
Start by popping the hood and looking for telltale signs of the rodent, half eaten acorns, little black pellets. If you see anything like that you can be pretty certain something crawled in and expired. The good news is eventually it should go away as nature takes its course.
Good luck! Let us know what you find.

No, its not something Dead. Car was returned after their 4 year lease was up. I may just pull those panels off just to open things up and freshen them in the open. Thanks. I have to back and say, its strange, it seems that what I'm experiencing is the pulling in of "around and under" engine compartment air. Like I said, its only when the windows are down or top open. If I close the left vent, seems to dissipate to no smell. At a conundrum.

If you think about it something organic must be happening at some level. Unless you think you are smelling the product of combustion and that’s a whole nother animal.
Certainly nothing the car is built with would have a “sour” smell.
Please keep us posted.

If all seems fine after removing trunk panels have dealer revisit, request shop foreman test drive vehicle duplicating your process with you riding along.

Try spraying some antibacterial deodorant in the air con air intake, you might find a build up of bacteria in the wet areas. Down here we have something called Glen 20, not sure if you guys have it there.spray it and leave it for a few minutes then try it. If it is still there then my apologies for a useless suggestion.
