Warm Air From Vents (Not in AC mode)

Hi All. I have a little problem (I think) With my E350 CDI COUPE.
I am constantly getying a warm air comming through my vents, even when temp is set to low. AC works fine, when set to cold it blasts cold air when set to hot it blast hot air, so no issues here. Moment I turn AC off.... All Im getting is warm to hot air through the vents.... As you can imagine its getting quiet warm inside the cabin...
Is there any comon fault/ issue on MB e class with regards to the above?

Many thanks All

I know there is a flapper that is supposed to close off the vents when not in use and it is controlled by a nodule. I have no idea if MB has this but it should. someone here should know.

What I havr also noticed is that during the hot days (Temp like 30C +) I only get warm air-even that temperature is set to lowest, almost as it pumps in the engine heat from under the bonnet through the vents (I know it sounds sick but thats how I would describe it) Once I turn AC on and Off after few minutes, the air will be cold)(not dure if it wturns to warm after a while as I didnt have enough time to test it yet)

On the other side, during colder mornings (Temoerature outside 17C) the air is set to low and zi do get colder air from the vents.

So, what I believe I hear you saying is warm air comes from the vents when the Climate Control (CC) is OFF. Maybe you are expecting the passive air to match the outside air temperature and it seems to be warmer? What happens is the CC remembers the cabin temperature you set even when the CC is OFF, and it will warm this air attempting to match the temperature you had previously set. One other factor is the algorithm that mixes hot air assumes you have the AC engaged and applies heat as if the starting air is colder than ambient. This will cause the passive air to be even warmer. If you truly want ambient air to enter the cabin without mixing hot air, then you need to set the CC to the Minimum temperature setting before turning it OFF.

Hi thanks for your reply.

What I expect to see (Forget the AC/CC - lets park that for now) is a cold/ cool air coming through my airvents when the temperature is set to LOW, instead I am only getting warm air, unless its a cold morning. If this was to remember previous settings, surely it would remember LOW setting from the previous day/ ride right? but instead it pumps warm air in..
In fact it pumps as cold/ warm air as outside air at that point in time (thats how it feels like)

There is ofcourse possibility thaf I missunderstood your post so let me read it again Lol

I believe we are saying the same thing--when the CC is set to LOW and OFF, it pumps exactly the outside air in. What else would you expect?

If I understand you correctly, the air from the vents is cold whenever the AC compressor is engaged; when you shut off the AC compressor, the air from the vents quickly becomes warm. You mentioned that, when the AC compressor is off, the air from the vents is cold on cold mornings. This makes sense, because the system is drawing in cool outside air. If your local weather is warmer later in the day, then your HVAC system is functioning as designed because, with the compressor off, there is nothing to cool the air in the system.

Thanks for your input guys. Im not expert in this field hence I created this topic.
Sound like its working as it should, warm air during hot days in because CC is off.

On the other side... Today much cooler day, so colder air getting inside but I also felt very hot air from under the steering wheel area getting into the cabin... Engine compartment heat. Is there anything on these cars to lool out for in this case? Engine temp always fine so I presume thermostat and the rest is ok. Engine does not overheat but I do feel its heat inside the cabin... Even though colder air is getting through the vents.

With the AC off the coolest the temp from the system will be the same as the outside temp. If the temp control is higher than the outside it can be warned but not cooled. Why not just leave the AC on and select the temp you? The AC will also dehumidify the air in the car no matter what the temp.

Definitely a lot of heat coming from the drivers legs area/ steering wheel area (its a UK RHD car)... It doesnt go through the vents - I checked it...
Today temperature outside was 19C so I drove on the motorway without AC hoping for kind of same temperature inside the cabin but it was boiling hot on the drivers side. Blower turned off, etc and I still felt this heat...

Ok I located the source of the heat. Directly under my seat there is an exhaust pipe. Just took the car for a fast run, when I stopped and opened the door I felt the same heat hitting my legs.... Gone under the car and exhaust is so f.....g hot!!!! I did feal some fumes earlier in the week, inside the cabin, wasnt realy sure if it was car in feont of me or my car... Will get it checked during the week. 6 years old... Some parts may need replacing... Not sure yet
