Pulled into the local M-B dealership today and saw a 2013 E550 Cabriolet on the lot. It must have just come in because it wasn't there last week. Pretty well equipped model with Premium 2, a couple of interior appearance options, Parktronic, Driver Assistance, etc. packages. This was someone's toy as it doesn't even have 20,000 miles on it and was obviously optioned to a buyer's very specific choices.
I heard some V8 Es have a problem with engine oil working its way to the ECM and killing it. Any other major, or minor, gotchas? I rather like the car. The engine feels super! The interior is dark red leather, which looks fantastic, but the exterior is Designo Magno Cashmere White, which is a matte finish that I don't really love. And I understand that Magno finishes require special care to maintain their appearance, which is like adding insult to injury as I don't love the finish, and it's extra work to maintain. On the other hand, the dealership has their own on-site car wash and dealership customers may bring their cars in at any time for a complementary wash, so I assume that the equipment and cleaners are Magno safe. Maybe?
E550 that's at the local dealership. Low miles but not available as Certified Pre-Owned.

And a convertible.

Good idea, but that doesn't work for me. I already have 3 antique cars and I'm out of garage space, so I need a fun car that's also practical for use everyday, such as this E550. If I was going to buy a convertible as a weekend toy for the collection, it most likely would be a 1960-66 Imperial Crown Convertible. I love those big old cars! But as I don't have garage space for an E550, I certainly don't have the 22' for a car from the 60s.
I have a 21,000 mile black/red 2013 E550 cabriolet and it has been a great car. I’ve been thinking about upgrading to a SL550 although I don’t honestly know why. My advice would be to get a V8 cab while you can still find a nice one.
We have a 2016 E550, same drivetrain. has been trouble free. Great daily.... low 20s mpg around town and 27-29 on highway runs... like Dan says above, ya can't get a V8 E-cab anymore so we have no plans to sell ours ever....
I have a 14 550 cab with 32k miles and have not had any issues except for regular maintenance. It sits in the garage now and I was thinking of going to an sl but than I remember how difficult it was to go to away for the weekend or go to the beach in my Jag f type.
Decided against. I'm a little uncomfortable about not having a warranty and will probably get something a little newer. And... I'd probably get a raft of tickets with that car.
