2011 Mercedes E550 Cabriolet -- engine light-- coolant temperature sensor malfunction

Hey guys,

Thought I'd try over here first to see if it can be done without the dealer seeing as they want 170 an hour just to "diagnose" the issue smh...can I change the temperature sensor myself? What needs to be done exactly? I hooked the obd to it and that's what it read but it was a basic obd so idk, what do you guys think? I just have to eat the cash for it?

Thanks!

What code are you getting and is your check engine light on?

If, in fact, it is the coolant temp sensor it is plug & play replacement. After install, if code remains stored erase if you have the ability.

Nice thank you guys. For some reason, the check engine light just turned back off one day and hasn't come back on yet. It's been 2 weeks, so hopefully everything worked itself out haha

Your thermostat could be sticking open causing the temp sensor to read cold for to long. The code indicates a system that failed not a component. That's why you have to find cause, correction ,retest .

Had the same issue: on-off-on. In fact you will only get the MIL light when it's cold outside. Turned out to be the thermostat which is also an easy fix.
