Yesterday I went to get in my car and the battery was completely dead. I looked up the battery online and everyone except Pep Boys calls for an H8 battery. They called for an H7 battery. I pulled the battery out this morning and it was a non-AGM H7 battery.
Can someone help me out? 2010 E550 Coupe. Does it use an H7 or H8 battery?
I am definitely going AGM all the way, but need to know which size. I have an H8 on hold at a store, but need to verify before I go pick it up.
Also, what does that vent tube connect to? I removed mine from the battery and it looks like it was previously connected to something on the opposite end, but is broken off. Didn't see anything upon first look. If anyone has a pic of the end of the vent tube opposite of the battery end, that would be great! Will try to get in there with a flashlight and look around. Also, I pulled out only one tube. Does this require two tubes? Just trying to get any sort of potential problems corrected from what may have been a mechanically inept previous owner.
Also, leaning towards just trying the H8 and reporting back with a yay or nay if no one chimes in on fitment by the time I pick the battery up this evening.
Current OEM battery part # is 0019828108 use this or 0009822108 to cross reference for aftermarket. Vent hose does not attach to anything see illustration and line 4 in attachment.

Thank you so much for this! I see that the tube goes into the little black square funnel looking drain thing (technical term). I noticed that when I was looking around under the hood.
For those that might have an interest - I tried the H8 battery and it is too wide to bolt down. It fits into the tray and I can connect the cables (if I wanted), but I am unable to secure the fasteners at the bottom of it. It is not enough room to slide the battery to clear enough space to bolt on the bracket.
I have to ask the question before I go and get the correct size. Are there any known mods such as a wider tray from another MB vehicle that would fit that H8 battery? I saw there are three screws securing the current battery tray.

Hmmm. All the batteries in the “H” Configuration(H6, H7, H8, etc...) are the same Width and Height. The only measurement that changes is the Length (long side). The bracket on my 2012 E550 sedan uses the long side of the battery to hold it down, so ANY H-Type battery should fit in the car. Not sure, but I would assume the coupe is setup similar? But I could be wrong...

The coupe bolt-down is on the wide side of the battery as opposed to the long side. I am considering buying a W212 sedan battery tray and seeing if I can mod it to fit that H8 battery.
So, I slept on it and what I've decided to do is return the H8 battery and get an H7. This is purely a time-based reason for sticking with the H7. However, I have identified battery trays from two different MB vehicles that I am going to try. The goal is (hopefully) in a few years when it is time to replace the battery, I can go with the larger H8 battery.

Interesting. I happen to have a new MB AGM H8 battery from my old R-Class(it got totalled, so I took my 2 week old battery back...lol) sitting on the tender. I'm off tomorrow, so maybe I'll see if it fits in the Sedan, and throw up some pics as well. I can get pics and numbers from the tray and post those as well. Curious if it will fix my cold start problem(rough idle till giving throttle input, then smooths out). Also, the sedan has a space in the trunk where another battery, or relocated battery could possible be installed. I'll get some pics back there too. It would be cool to relocate the battery to the trunk and use that reclaimed space to install an I/C reservoir...hmm...
Finally installed the new battery. Car starts up better and the electronics function noticeably better than it has in the short time I've owned it. No delays. Everything is crisp.
