I'm in the middle of a spark plug change on my 2016 E400 cabrio (m276 bi turbo) and suddenly having second thoughts about the torque on the plugs. Since it's been really tough to find good videos for this car out there, I'm making one and praying I figure out the editing right. Can anyone share the torque specs for the plugs on this vehicle with a MB service paper? I hope to give a little back to the community with this one... Unfortunately I've seen two differing posts on this so I'm guessing they were for different engines. Thanks in advance!
BTW, a great write-up on this change is here in the W212 forum and indicates 23nm torque. If I don't hear back soon this is what will be done.
Ok, plug change complete and video done. My first, and very unprofessional video, but if you can overcome the fact that I'm working with one hand, holding the phone with the other it may help someone else get through the change. Learned a lot here so the next video should be cleaner, but this will probably save some people time. Enjoy. Again thanks to @OntarioDave and @konigstiger for the guidance to get this done!
I just finished changing the plugs in my '15 E400 Coupe, which should be a virtually identical procedure to your Cab. Your video was extremely helpful . It's a relatively simple procedure, with pulling the boots off of the plugs being the hardest part. I started with the zip-tie method and was snapping ties as I tried to pull the boots off. I was able to pull the first 2 boots off using 2 zip ties on each boot, but on the third plug I snapped the 2 ties doubled-up!! Upon further thought and examination, I finally and simply used a pair of pliers loosely grabbing the flat protrusion at the top of the hard-plastic boot shroud (see photo) to pull straight-up on the boots which allowed them to pop-off much more easily than when using the zip-ties. Thinking about this some, when using the zip-ties, you're not pulling straight up but at a slight angle which tends to compress and bind the the soft rubber-like boot material against the plug ceramic. Using the pliers allows for a straighter pull and less binding, and doesn't seem to damage the hard plastic casing as you pull.
Thanks for sharing; not much information on our DIY engine maint. Looking forward to more of your videos and exploration tips.
Had this service done at dealer for ~$600 if anyone is curious on dealer cost.
