I went thru this search a few years back and decided I was only interested in the '15-'17 range, mainly because of the motors. I ruled out the '18, as I didn't like the interior and exterior redesign. I'd say if all are sound, go with the lowest mileage. At this point, they're all out of factory warranty, but I suppose you could buy an extended warranty. If you do, make sure the convertible bits are covered.
I think I've ruled out the 15 because the two turbochargers make me Nervous, just seems like two added layers of complexity onto something already complicated. Plus Consumer Reports gave two red arrows Down to the 15 for "Engine Major", "Transmission Minor", "Fuel System" and "Electrical", but seemed more or less ok with the 13 and 14.
I'd rather have the 14 than the 13 because I like the refresh, it looks more modern to me.

I also avoid 4-matics for the same KISS principle. I had considered the bi-turbo complexity as well, but I went with the '15 because of the additional power. It's been over 4 years now and no issues. However, I should say, I've never really driven it hard and I don't drive it all that much, even though it's my daily driver.
The only complaint I have so far is the cover of the storage bin in the back seat, as my dog crushed it by standing on it. However, it's the same design as the other MYs you're considering...
I personally own a 2015 E400 4Matic. Polar White over Red.
I purchased her used from a MB dealership 6 months ago with 71k miles on it.
Fast forward 6 months and 6k miles. I absolutely love the car. I have done several upgrades and she is fast and comfortable with zero issues to date.
IMHO I feel the 2014+ looks way better. As far as the engine options. What are you looking to get out of it?
Oh, and the 4Matic kicks all of the Subby's butts driving around town.
My preference would be for the newer body style, I think the 13 looks "old", dated. My question really was whether the experience of folks here would argue for or against the refresh, or for or against the new engine, on reliability/potential problems. Interestingly Consumer Reports, which didn't care for MY15 at all, gave high marks to MY16. (And high marks also to 13 and 14.)
15/16 seem more fun to drive, zippier. But if I rule out the 15, the 16 would be another $7500 or so more than the 13, $5000 more than the 14. Is it worth it? 30 bucks a week over 5 years?
If you want zipper get the 550.
Ive had a CLK 350 then a CLK550 big performance difference between them and now a 2014 twin turbo V8 E550, all cabriolet. I would never go back to 350. Good car by all means but the E550 is so quick and fun.
I like the refresh look but the older ones are also classic.
The only thing I miss on my 2014 that is on the 2016 is the android auto and Carplay but that is easily remedied.
OK I've decided, it's going to be a 2014 E350 cabrio, with AMG Sport package, in blue or Diamond White (I prefer it over the polar white), beige or brown interior. As soon as I can find a good one (low miles, good records etc).
Found a good 2013 in blue but I really want the refresh. MB wouldn't have spent one billion Euros on it if they didn't think they were adding value.
Considered going for a 16 but scared of the more complex engine (and secondarily the $5-6k higher price). Money probably better held in reserve for when the top hydraulics need addressing.
16 E550 Cab, 2003 Ram bright red crewcab 4x4 we call Clifford :)

Thanks to all for input and Happy Holidays
Not sure if you decided or found one yet but we have the 2016 E550 Cab, bought new. It's been fairly trouble free, has about 35k miles on it.
Just did tires and only because they started to dry rot...
brakes are original, likely because it doesn't have the distronic cruise
It's been all maintenance except for the aux battery in the trunk, failed a few years back I'm replacing it again for the second time today.
Only complaint is a semi mysterious alert from the mirrors at about 43mph.... in a few places around us local... some weird radar thing....
Otherwise its a quiet and comfortable ride that is deceptively quick...
