New key programming fee?

To add insult to injury, the dealer in Clearwater, FL. is going to charge to program a new key for my 2011 E550. $562 and telling me the programming wasn't necessary anymore when I ordered it? I had asked because I previously had a CLK500 and ordered a spare key. Three trips, 35 miles each way.

When I lived in Chicagoland, I purchased a new key. In the process of doing so, I found out that the cost varied greatly by dealer, so IMO it’s a money grab. I highly recommend checking parts prices with several dealers whenever you need a dealer supplied part.

I questioned my dealer on getting a replacement key. I walked out when they gave me a over $600 quote. I don't remember the exact price, but I think its absurd. I was also told that I had to drop off the car for them to do it.

I was given a quote of $460. It would be ordered based on VIN and didn't need programming. They needed to view the car, registration and photo ID in order to give me the key.

New Key FOB needed

I need to order a new key FOB as mine is dead (new batteries didn’t fix it). When I called one of the dealerships they said they could order a new key for me but I would have to leave the car (yes the car) at the dealership until the new key arrives (could be 5+ days). Did anyone have to deal with this ridiculousness when the ordered a new key?

You should not have to leave your car & depending on the time of day when you have them order the key, it should be there at the latest on the 2nd day. I went in early am, so mine came the next day. I’d check other dealers, but you will definitely have to prove ownership.
