2012 e350 hood ornament

I have a 2012 e350 cabriolet and was wondering if I can change the flat hood ornament the is on the car for the Mercedes ornament that stands up like the older Mercedes. It looks like my ornament has 2 screws pegs.thanks Jimbo

The flat hood badge has always been the one thing I dislike about my car. However, the prospect of having both a large star in the grille and an upright star on the hood is not appealing (this is almost universally frowned upon, and I agree with that opinion), so the first thing I did was shop for a traditional, horizontally slatted grille like the one now limited mostly to S-Class sedans. Unfortunately, no such option (from MB or aftermarket) seems to exist for my car, so that killed the idea of replacing the flat hood badge with an upright star.

It's infuriating, because back in la belle époque of Mercedes-Benz, an upright star on the hood of a coupe was the norm. I miss those days.

I agree with Mr. Toad. I too have wished for a single horizontal bar grill, like the 280SL had - much more elegant and tasteful. There were some aftermarket ones available at one time, but were said to be a pita to install. My 2011 E550 is pre-facelift, so I just gave up.

My '11 E550 coupe w/ the single horizontal bar grill. Bought it yrs ago from a fellow MBWorlder. Snapped in like the stock grill.

The grill and AMG twin exhaust tips that have been welded to the tail pipes add a bit o' "je ne sais quoi" - ;>

Thank you. By any chance do you know who made it? I'm not sure if they're still available.

The box it came in was marked "SLS Style Look "WE-G1015-A1". There is a very similar, if not the same, one on evilBay:

LOL, I actually bought a hood ornament but never mounted it for the same reason, didn't want the big star on the grill as well as the hood ornament. In my E-sedans, I had used the hood ornament to "sight" my position in the lane, which was my primary motivation for installing one on the cabriolet, but I felt it was just too much to have both. Oddly enough, I've adjusted to driving without the ornament "sight"...

I prefer the flat badge. I can touch it whilst closing the hood...without touching the paint. And I've had a few of the standing badges stolen (causing damage once).

Yup,

Mark

To me, the view of that little star out at the end of the hood while driving was always one of the greatest joys of owning a Mercedes-Benz.

To me, the old upright version of the badge degrades the car's appearance.

It does seem so on the 207, but I have to say, the size of the star on the grille seems to large to me. It's too ostentatious, especially the LED backlit ones. I'd prefer if it wasn't there.

C320 E350 Convertible
John

No one answered the original question. I, too, would like to install the star hood ornament on my 2012 E350 convertible. The one I bought needs to have a hole in the hood and my flat emblem is attached without a hole. Has anyone made this change and how to do it?
Thanks,
John
