1-- Failure to start:
read out fuel pressures with a scanner.
what's current mileage engine type?
you may need filters serviced or issue with HPFP
2-- Valve timing issue:
I do NOT call this "rattle" as it does NOT yet sound like classic worn VVT gear lock pin
This is limp secondary chain tensioners.
Perhaps with a timing fault from Bk1 intake cam
(this may be impacting fuel pump timing ie. no start)
3-- Leaky CAM sensors:
Replace your 4x CPS sensors if found leaking oil in harness.
4-- Engine oil is essential !
these engines really on oil viscosity grade for timing
they can ingest a lot of it, check level
they tend to burn it black shortly, oil interval at 5kMi !
5-- Service needs
High maintenance translates in frequent timely service. Fortunately it is still mostly basic.
Get a scanner it will help retrieve data for free.
6-- Cost wise
You are looking at couple hundreds in parts, less than $1k not including labor.
