Thank goodness my new 2019 E450 Cabriolet came with the black rather than the silver inserts on the new steering wheel. It's easier to keep clean and easier to see.

However, at least here in the U.S., there doesn't seemed to be any rhyme or reason as to which models get which? I know it's not night pkg. or AMG line that triggers it. I have neither on my car. I've seen 2019 cars in my dealers show room that have come in that have either/or; regardless of model. Does anyone know?

No idea about the US, but in the UK the steering wheels with the silver trim seem to be reserved for AMG line vehicles.

 

Anyone else have a theory? Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason here in the US.

 

I have the US AMG with silver inserts. I don't like it. Under some circumstances the reflection from the sunlight is very high, like a flashlight in my eyes. I have to cover both with my hands. It's just dangerous.

 

Never thought about the sunlight issue Tom, I also think the lettering is very hard to see as opposed to the black. It was a pleasant surprise for me to get the black edition; basically because I hadn't seen it on any of the 2019 models at the show. I wonder if you could get your silver insert replaced with a black one? Looks like they could be popped in and out.

Still, have no idea what triggers whether you get silver or black.

 

For the US: Add AMG Line +2,500 - Incl. Sport steering wheel , for Germany you can order the " Multifunktions-Sportlenkrad in Leder Nappa " with no additional cost. You can't replace the inserts, its not the same shape as the black inserts.

It takes a couple of day and you know the functions....

 

I wonder if they didn't realize their mistake with the silver, and substituted the black in later orders. That's all I can figure.

 

Black is coming on heated only steering wheel

 

I got my E53 Cabriolet on Dec 4th, and it has a heated steering wheel, night addition and silver. I'm in Canada

Depends on market & equipment/codes (809 = 2019), 2A17 = silver , 9J32 = black.

 

You got the different AMG steering wheel as you are E53. They come with silver only

E53 has true AMG steering with AMG logo at the bottom, they all come with silver inserts, heated and non heated, with alcantara or without...


All other have heated steering with BLACK inserts


or NON heated with silver
