Heavy Doors

The doors on the E53 and E450 are large and pretty heavy. My wife is small and has difficulty getting out of the car and closing the doors when she is in the car. She sits very far forward and I think that's part of the problem. We are going to try having her move the seat all the way back when she exits the car. Hopefully that will make it easier for her. I know one couple who passed on the E450 Coupe for a sedan due to the heavy doors. We didn't notice this on our test drives, but we were not in and out of the car often. Has anyone else noticed that the doors seem particularly heavy and that the interior handle (gripping area) is forward, giving very little leverage to close the door? Has this been a problem for anyone?

My wife, who is tiny, has a bit of a problem with the doors on my E400C. I'm considering trading her in....

Same here. She also sits too low in the car. I may list it on swap-a-lease. Too bad because I really like the car. I have a cab but I'm sure the doors are the same.

I think The_Judge was thinking of trading his wife, not the car.

Setting the drivers seat memory position 3 to fully back and fully up seems to have helped. She presses that memory button to get in and out of the car. She is still having issues parking. But I think that will get better as she gets used to the car. We came from a C400. The E53 is only 6 inches longer and about 2 inches wider, but all the visual cues are different. With the AMG E53 you get one level at the AMG Driving Academy for free (normally $1,850.) I’m trying to get her to take it. That should give her some confidence.

I order my E450 Cab with the soft close doors. Sounds like this may have been a good decision.

I have the soft close doors and it’s a helpful option.

I have a regular E300, but at first I thought there was a problem with my passenger side doors since they didn't close that well Hopefully it's just the weight of them then.

Thanks for this information. I was able to reach out to my dealer and she was able to add the soft close doors for my order. My wife is petite and I was not ready to trade her in yet, we only have about 31 years so far.

Best regards, Tony
