Mercedes me connect in 2019 E Coupe and Cabriolet

Let's use this thread to share our experiences with Mercedes me connect in the 2019 E Coupe and Cabriolet.

So far Mercedes me connect has worked very well in my E53 Coupe. Much better than the old mbrace system. Last week I received an email saying that new capabilities will be available on January 18, 2019. There was a message in the app a couple of days ago saying the system was unavailable due to maintenance. I assume they were upgrading the system to provide the new capabilities mentioned in the email. The system is back up and working well, but I don't see any new capabilities. Has anyone seen any changes or upgrades?

I would like to see the ability to adjust climate control when the car is started remotely. It would be nice to be able to turn on the heated seats and steering wheel. The ability to remotely open or close the windows and roof would be nice too.

So far my experience with it has been very mixed. The app on the phone sometimes refuses to connect, and i have to force quit it and restart it, at which point everything works fine (probably a glitch in sleeping the app, maybe it holds on to the stale connection). Highly annoying in that quit/restart is that you have to log back in with full username and password... I'd like to see it behave like my ADT app or other ones where you can use fingerprint or facial recognition to unlock it instead.

The initial commercial I saw on Youtube showed the German woman using the app to slowly pull the car forward out of a parking space in a garage (in case someone parks too close to you) but I havent seen this feature in the app either (not that I'd use it much but I don't like false advertising).

By far, the biggest disappointment in the Connect system is the regular web GUI you use from a non phone/tablet. If I attempt to acdess the Connect features from my laptop, the website is insanely slow and often times out with Gateway errors and other messages like "Please try again later." Incredibly annoying but I guess most folks are using the app on their phone and with the exception of the problems I note above, it's not bad.

I use the app on my iPhone and it logs in with the Face ID
I need yo do it if I need to open\close the vehicle or start it only

interesting. I don’t have to log into the app each time. To remote start or unlock the doors, I use Face ID. The only time I had to enter user ID and password was for initial set up and last week after MB did system maintenance.

Oh cool, the Android app doesn't do that. Maybe they'll introduce a fingerprint or other option for us at some point.

When using the app on an iPhone X, there is a toggle to use FaceID in the user profile section. There must be a similar setting for phones with fingerprint ID whether iPhones or Android.

Well, I just launched the app on my phone and it starts up with "Connection could not be established. Please try again later." Retry a bunch, no luck. I force quit the app. Re-launch it. Allows me to log in with full username and password, neither of which can be cached in the app so they must be typed in full.

Once entered, I can launch the app normally and all functions are available. So the "Connection could not be established" message is crap, because the phone clearly can, indeed, connect to Mercedes, it's just using a stale connection or something. If you force quit and walk all the way back in, it works fine. I don't think I'll be using this app much if I have to do this every time I want to remotely control my car or monitor it in some way.

I just checked the settings and user profile areas of the Android app and there is no possibility to turn on fingerprint or face recognition. The only option is to change the PIN required to do more advanced remote things like start the car, which you don't use to log in to the app.

So, the Android app leaves a lot to be desired. And I just used the MercedesMe Connect portal on my laptop and it's doooooooooog slooooooooooooooow. But at least it didn't gateway error out on me.

I just received my first automatic, over the air software (map) update. It updated the maps from V13 to V14. I first noticed it was updating the maps about a week ago. It was at 97%. It took a few days to go from 97% to 100%. The Mercedes me connect web portal says the update has been available since 12/18/2018 (2 days before I got my car). It looks like it took about a month for the update to complete.

+1

significantly better then previous iterations - it comes down to this - one touch on your phone and the vehicle should config itself so I can get in and go without setting ECO, sport mode, CarPlay etc all user defined parameters executed.

Well, the long and short of it is I see no additional features in the app since the update. Has anyone?

Hello, I first was unable to setup anything with my cheap chinese android based phone, and got very frustrated, but was finally able to set it up using my wife's iphone (for the setup only). Now it works on my Android, but at each start, a message pop up reading something is not set up with MB connect. Anyway, I don't have much use of it, for now at least.

Not only would it be nice to have Remote Parking Pilot, it could almost be a necessity. The long heavy doors on the E Coupe can make it difficult to enter the car if someone parks too close. It would be so convenient to be able to pull the car out of the parking spot remotely. My understanding is that the car is capable, but US regulations prohibit remote operations.

The remote parking package is an option you add to the car when buying new if the car does not have it in the options list then too bad because you can't install it via an update. This is for Euro spec cars of course maybe the us cars have the capability included in the standard package.

The Parking Assistance Package with Active Park Assist is an option. Remote Parking Pilot, where you operate the car from outside the vehicle with the app, is not. Not in the US anyway. Everything I’ve heard is that the limitation is due to US regulations prohibiting this type of autonomous operation. The cars apparently have all the mechanical capability, but the software isn’t activated due to the US regulations.

Good point.

Mine doesn't have it and I was disappointed when ordering, that I wasn't able to spec it. It simply wasn't available. I assumed that it was no longer available on MY19 cars but another forum member who is based elsewhere in Europe does have it on his car. So, the reason behind this is a complete mystery to me.

19MY is totally в mystery. It is not about Mercedes ME but my 19MY E450 coupe doesn't have the passenger seat control button on the drivers door. And if Im correct none on 19MY coupes have it and can't be ordered as an option

YES! That was one of the first things I noticed when I got my car. It's a real shame as it was a useful feature and would have come in very handy when driving one of my elderly parents (with tech allergies).

and I have no idea why they refused to make it in the 19MY coupes, Sedans for example have it
I asked MB dealer and they told me they have no idea

Dealer's seem to be increasingly clueless. I asked mine a simple question last week on whether it's OK to fill up on premium fuel (97 or 98 RON) instead of the standard stuff (95 RON) as indicated in the owner's manual. I'm still waiting for him to get back to me....

Tesla’s “Summon” Remote parking system seems very basic. It moves only straight back or forward with minor corrections. I’ve read that Teslas’s next generation remote system will be much more capable, but they are having regulatory issues. BMW has a remote parking system that seems similar to Tesla’s current system and it looks like it’s avaiable in the US. Maybe the Benz system will be available soon.

Lets hope so, it would be really nice for me. I use a wheelchair and I need to swing the door open wide to get in and out, someone parks too close to my door and I am screwed. I car a foldable orange cone behind the drivers seat and if it's a non HP parking spot I have to use I place the orange cone about 4 feet away from the door and hope and pray nobody drives over it and parks right next to me anyhow, lol.
