Lowering an E53
I did a search and couldnt find anything about it- since the E53 has an air suspension- can it be set lower as a default in the computer? and if it can are their any detriments in do so? Lowering by 15-20mm and adding 10mm spacers would be such a cherry on top for such a perfect car. Getting mine with 20" wheels. Thank you

1. You can lower it switching just suspension to sport mode. I do this for mine. I configured individual mode with all in comfort except suspension, it is set to sport.
2. You can get a lowering module like this

As for me I go with first option

You have two options

Thank you for the reply- I do not own the car yet- how is the Sport suspension setting on a daily basis? And about how much lower is it?

That looks great! I only wanted about 1.25-1.5" so good enough I think that I will try it after I get it and see how it goes. If I dont like it will simply go the other route but will probably be fine. I am trading in an S550 and its ride was of course super comfy- with airmatic of course.
I dont mind a bit tighter - My wife has an M2 for whenever I want to lose my fillings...

Yes I love the S but the E does both luxury and Sport- the S does luxury perfectly but just too heavy at 4800 lbs. for any back roads driving. While the S isn't perfect- I dont want to go with a C63S just too amped up - the E looks perfect and will AGE VERY WELL. Will look good now and 10 years from now.
I am buying the Designo seat option as I have been told they are a bit more comfy than the standard sport seats- that I find pretty hard actually. And the gas mileage boost is nice too. Thanks for the help! Your car is awesome.

If they are classy E53 five double spoke AMG wheels than you will be not enough with 10mm in the rear
Mine on the photo has 13mm in the rear and Im thinking of adding more especially when suspension is in sport mode
And 13mm is the thinest you can add because of the hub

It depends on the wheels the car is coming with

@FedM Do you mind sharing what brand spacers and the size you are running on your E53? I just purchased a 2021 e53 coupe and first thing Id like to add are spacers.
It looks like keeping the car in sport + will lower the car, so maybe I do not need lowering links?
Does sport plus setting keep the car lowered OR only while moving?

I kkow thread is quiet old, but maybe someone will find this helpful. Spacers i got are 15 on rear and 20 on front. Looks good, maybe front I should've put 20 aswell, but its ok. Stock wheels 275x19 rear and 245x19 front I had no issues. No lowering, stock dynamic body control suapension. After replacing rear for a 285 tire started to lighly hit the well on higher speeds and bumpy road, not that often and no damage at all for about 15k miles.

By the way is airride stiffer than dynamic body control? For me this body control is a nightmare. the sport+ for esp in dynamic select mode "i" helps more like a placebo and stupid switching everytime I start the car is embarassing. Is e53's suspension different?

I don’t have an answer to your first question, but I see that the car reverts back to Comfort mode at every start up. So always have to hit the buttons each time. Is that what you mean? I have not searched for a way to change that.

Sorry, i meant if e53's suspension is overall different than standard e class dynamic body control and airride. Regarding the switching dynamic select every start of the car i know that best you can is only program it to be kept for 4 hours.

OEM AMG front are 8 w 20 offset and rear are 9 with 49 offset. I did measure with a level after reading someone doing 15 all around. Looks like front and rear are the same on mine. Hard for me to tell with the fender lip and the tires having wheel protectors ,but looked like 18mm could work. I like your look and don’t want to poke out more than that. All these MB wheels have different offsets! I went nuts trying to put together a winter wheel/ tire package. My winter setup has half inch wider wheels and slightly different rear offset so whatever spacers I choose for my OEM won’t work on the winter ( at least not the front) . Did you say what brand spacer you went with? Also a bit of trouble finding spacers. Found a company called Modus. They have a good selection. Not sure where they are made.

Again, keep in mind my rear tires are a little wider than stock, and the rear look is just perfect. Front with my stock 245 width tires now i would go with 25mm spacer easy. But plans are to change the rims too on the next tire replacement, will go 20 or 21 rims, and wider tires, not sure the size yet.
