Low speed Wind buffeting
Hi All,
Was hoping one of you might be able to shed some light on an annoying issue I have on my newly purchased C238!
I’ve noticed on both the pax and drivers front window bottom corner next to wing mirrors, a loud and annoying wind buffeting from relatively low speeds of approx 40mph and upwards. I do a lot of motorway driving and find the noise levels distracting and pretty annoying to say the least! I can only liken to the noise you get when the window is not fully shut!
I’ve taken it into my local dealer who subsequently replaced the seals on both sides, but on collecting the car, the buffeting is still there, annoying as ever!
They have said that buffeting is normal due to the frameless windows and not sealing fully!
I find this hard to believe, that a prestigious manufacturer like Mercedes would consider this kind of wind noise acceptable, and from such low speeds as 40mph.
I would fully expect a degree of aerodynamic wind noise at high speeds, but nothing to the extent of what I’m experiencing.
I love the car, but am finding this issue unfortunately starting to detract from the overall enjoyment of what is otherwise a beautiful car to own and drive.
I’m hoping that someone has had this similar problem, and has managed have it rectified! I find it hard to believe that all E class C238 owners would find this acceptable or something they would be prepared to live with, if indeed it is
perfectly normal for this model!
any advice extremely welcome.

Glad I’m not the only one, thought I was going nuts! I’ve had 4 people drive the car, without telling them what the issue was, and they all say, “what the hell is that awful noise” I spent over an hour adding and removing electrical tape in the area that I think it’s coming from, and think I’ve managed to isolate it at last. I’ve taped over the seal just underneath the wing mirror trim cover plate, and although still noticeable, it’s nothing as bad as before. I can only surmise that it’s possibly the doors themselves out of alignment or the windows as previously mentioned. The seal itself has been replaced already, so can’t see that still being the issue.
Really disappointed to be honest, as it’s the first Mercedes I’ve had from years of BMW ownership and I find it bizarre to be told that it’s normal for this model! Wind buffeting from 40mph “Really” Surly not every C238 owner is willing to accept and live with that! Anyway, back to the dealer I go!

To a certain degree, there is also noise present in the sedans. My 2015 sedan has far more wind noise than my old 2001 Lexus did, even when the Lex was old.
Two different dealers have struck out on quieting the noise. I finally just had my audiologist create an alternate "profile" on my hearing aids to suppress the frequency range that bothered me. I think it has to do with the design/shape of the side mirrors.

Hope part is returnable. Thought you could sidestep trim replacement, apparently not.

I had same problem with my Range Rover. I thought all the sealing is the problem. I had that noise about quite a few years. One day my mechanic told me why my air intake is loose. I had him tighten the bolts around the air filter box. Suddenly my car became a Rolls Roice. No wind noise so far. Hope you guys check the air intake.
