It is more like a prank than with scamming intentions, OP's friends only benefited from a laugh and not any monetary gains for example. Unless I understand the definition of a scammer incorrectly, please correct me if so.

Have to admit that was a hell of a prank. They got me, but good.

Sorry if I've caused any consternation on this board. I'll go away and shut up now.
Excellent prank! I have a group of friends that go back to high school and college; while we do not live near each other we typically do a golf outing or event each year, the Animal House pranks are rampant even at our age. In addition, we prank each other during the year, particularly during football season, and around Masters time. All in good fun, and definitely enjoyable; even when they get you! Be glad you have friends! And that they have a developed sense of humor! Well played!

No, you are quite right in your definition of scammer. I should have put quote marks around scammer as I was being facetious.

OP, you can finally enjoy the full experience of your vehicle and no longer have to be laughed at by your friends (Thanks to forum member Eaton for the update on this):

Hermes chip update 6/10/2022

All,
The Hermes chip's are trickling in and I've received my service bulletin and set appointment for install and another service campaign.
I will call two days prior to insure the chip is in hand.
They are giving a loaner car for the day and told me its been taking them 3x longer than the letter indicates.

UPDATE: Withe my Hermes chip installed on Friday, the Mercedes Me Connect is now operational and working as intended!
The saga is over.
