Apple CarPlay Question
Hi All,
looking for some help around options for Apple CarPlay.
it appears my cars Mbux didn’t come with CarPlay as when I connect my device via USB cable the option does not appear in the connect menu.
is there a way to retrofit via a module or any after market solutions to enable Apple CarPlay? Has anyone had any success in doing this?
many thanks.

Hi, what is your VIN number? I can look up to see if your car has the option. Also, only one of the USB ports is configured to use CarPlay, so make sure you are using the correct USB port.

that’s weird because Iv just checked and the VIN is right, checked both the windscreen and inside the door and they’re the same. No clue why it’s giving an error. Thank you for trying though!

Found it. Not sure why it didn’t work on all the normal VIN checkers. It looks like your vehicle is not optioned, it is missing option “16U - Smartphone Integration Apple CarPlay”.

i don’t suppose you know if this is something that can be added? Would it need a trip to the dealer or can it be enabled via over the air updates? And in the worst case scenario, does it need new hardware?
Thanks again.

The ONLY way to enable it is to purchase it in the Mercedes me Store.

So I managed to get my MercedesMe app sorted today with the dealer but can’t see any options to buy the integrated smartphone feature.
I am thinking it either needs additional hardware or was only available when the car was new and the buyer didn’t select it as an option pre build. Not sure where to go from here in honesty.. I’ve seen some obd type activation modules on eBay for atoms £30 but do I trust it?… my gut is telling me to not bother and to ask a pro about it.
