USB Port for Carplay or Andriod

Does anyone know whether the USB port for carplay or andriod always "ON"?

It seems that this USB port does not turn off itself after the engine turned off more than 15 minutes.

My vehicle is a 2019 C238.

The owner’s manual does not mention this port will turn off the power automatically, it says only for connecting the phone with the phone wire to the CarPlay or Android.

I called a few dealerships and they did not aware the discharge.

That’s why I asked in this forum, members here know more than the dealerships. 😁

I suspect the USB port is not always active. I use a Motorola MA1 for wireless AA and it takes ~30 seconds to boot up when starting the car which to me indicates powering down when idle.

I just ran a quick test on my 2018 A238, all with keys in hand.

Got in car and plugged in the phone, it started charging.
Started the car - obviously still charging.
Turned off the car, still charging.
Opened and closed the door (which turns off radio, garage door buttons, etc) and the phone kept charging.

So this tells me unless there's something activating it when the key is in the car, it's on all the time. I do question why this is a big deal. If the car battery charges up your phone, it shouldn't run it down unless it sits in there for quite a long time using the car battery to keep it constantly topped up. Like days or over a week. If you accidentally left your phone in overnight and it runs your battery down, it's time to check the battery or alternator. Is there a problem you're trying to solve?

The reason that I asked because my car was a 2019 model did not come with wireless carplay or andriod.

I was adding an aftermarket dongle (carlinkit) and attached to the USB port in order to make it wireless (obviously, it works).

However, the problem was this USB phone port was always "ON", as a result, the carlinkit could not turn off.

So, every time when I left the car, I have to unplug the carlinkit in order to prevent the battery drain.

I tried and it did not work.
