Hi,
I'm a new member, just joined and have an issue.
I have a 2019 E class convertible and as of today, when I open the boot, it only opens half way.
I opened it this morning for work and it opened fine but when I got to work, it now only opens half way and stops solid.
It will close fine every time but every time I open it, it only opens to 45 degrees and then stops firm.
It's a mechanical boot release, not electrical and does the same thing when either using the fob, pressing the button on the boot or boot release from the drivers door.
As far as I'm aware, there are no settings on any other menu's that I can see so am guessing it's some kind of mechanical issue?
I've tried to look at the hinges to see if anything looks broken or could be fouling it but everything appears to look ok, although I'm no expert.
Has anyone else had this issue or could suggest what might be causing it?
Any suggestions would be greatfully recieved.
Thanks in advance/

There is something call restrict trunk height, are you sure you didn't miss that setting?
Thanks for the feedback, I thought you had nailed it.
I even checked the manual which says to go into vehicle settings and then boot lid limiter.
Unfortunately, when I went into vehicle settings, the only options I have are acoustic lock, door lock, belt management, fold in mirrors, reversing camera and easy entry/ exit.......nothing for boot lid limiter so I'm back to the drawing board.

Sorry for the late reply, been busy lately and haven't been on the forums.
Sorry to hear that didn't work for you, try pressing the trunk button in the rear and then while it is closing, press and hold the button, that will either remember that position or reset it.
Hi,
Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately that didn't work.
It's a manual mechanical boot release, not an electric one so guessing that may make a difference when diagnosing the issue.
Everything looks fine regarding the springs, hinges etc and the fact that when opening, it stops in the same position every time, at 45 degrees make me think there must be something that needs resetting or pressing.............I just can't work out what or where.
I've attached a couple of pics that might help demonstrate the situation and the mechanism.

Just from your images I don't see anything out or the ordinary, didn't know you had a manual trunk however so that does change things no doubt. I should had remembered that A238 don't have electric trunks due to the top, didn't occur to me, sorry about that. Sorry I wasn't able to help as well.
I also forgot you mentioned that you don't have an electric trunk in your original post, not sure how I missed that, sorry about that. I mean it makes sense the A238 never have electric trunk due to accommodation for the roof. In that case, I suggest since your trunk is spring loaded, the spring might not be retracting correctly, what happens if you (gently) push it beyond the 45 degree angle? Wave it (gently) back and forth and see if you hear something.
I ended up taking the car to a garage to take a look and they found a loose chuck of metal, I would say around 2cm squared behind the right hand hinge mechanism.
I've no idea how it got there as there was no sign of damage or anything that had snapped but it was a struggle to get it out as was in a confined area.
Anyway, once removed, the boot lid closed easily, as it should and I've had no issues since.
Thanks for all the advice though.
This has happened to me, I’ve kept searching and then used a jet washer and a tiny bit of metal came out. Works fine now
