It was weird getting no response on this at all, but I had to move forward with a couple of great youtube videos from Sprinter Zone and Project Athos. Different cars, same transmission. Anyway, I broke a small bolt that holds the transmission pan in place ( 1 of about 8) and will need to tap and replace it. Anyone know a part number for this tiny bolt? It's an 8mm E-Torx. For anyone interested, here's a picture of the broken bolt and my garage when almost finished with this 60k service. Fun day!

I can't believe you haven't purchased the WIS/ASRA with EPC (Electronic Parts Catalogue) on USB or download. It's the complete parts catalogue with Service Manuals. (parts catalogue only up to build date 6/2018 by vin). It's cheap on eBay.
The Transmission/Transfer case service is my last DIY project on my 2019 S560 to complete the 60K service. I would have to buy the adapters and pressure tank but that's OK. Still cheaper than the Mercedes dealer.
Did you drain the torque converter by its drain plug? I have to buy a new drain plug for that before starting the procedure on mine.
Your broken bolt is part # A0029909503 and you need 10 for the oil pan.
Your torque converter drain plug is part # A0019901117.
This is of course if I looked it up right. I do not have your vin.

In my transmission service procedure draining the torque converter is part of it. If you don't do it do you end up overfilling the transmission fluid if you fill it to the top of the overflow tube?
Another way to look at it. If you drain off 5 quarts but it takes 9 quarts to fill it where the tube starts to overflow.
Did that occur? Did you have to re-drain or add fluid after cranking it up?
I would really like to know how that drain tube and drain plug work with all their various positions.
Did you buy the tool to turn things with?
I read the service procedure but without those items in hand it's hard to figure out how they move in your head.

1. While engine is cold, unplugged the drain plug in transmission pan, a little fluid came out (less than .5L).
2. Inserted the special key tube tool, (Starts in position 1 as labeled on the oil pan) and turn to position 4. The tranny oil all comes out of the tube. I had to hold it or the key would just fall out which made a mess.
3. Turned back to position 1.
4. Removed oil pan, cleaned the area where the gasket meets the metal with brake cleaner.
5. Put in the connectors and pumped in 5L of transmission fluid, turned off the valve to cut off pressure, left the pump tube connected to the car and pump.
6. Started the car and let Engine warm up. (HOLD THE BRAKE!), then ran through 3 cycles of 10 sec on R, 10 on N, 10 on D, 10 on P, repeat. Leave car running.
7. Placed catch pan under tranny pan, and removed the tools/tube from pan. A little falls out (that's the extra).
8. Re-place oil pan plug.
9. Shut off engine.
Positions 2 and 3 seem to just slow down the flow of oil, I couldn't find that they actually did anything useful past that. I saw in one video they also experienced that position 2 which 'should' stop draining when excess is all out, just drains all the oil out.

i have done the service half a dozen times w/zero issues. we have E400 and E450 with the same trans. Love the C238 body style, the new CLE's don't look as nice to me, they look more like a C-class coupe! oops just realized this thread is 2 years old!!
