1983 240 hood pad / insulation
Hi everyone,
I'm the delighted new owner of a beautiful 1983 240D. The car is in great shape, but it doesn't have its hood pad/insulation. The seller recommended NOT getting the OEM hood pad but using one of those insulating sprays because the hood pads deteriorate. Given that it is a diesel, engine noise is an issue. What's the best way to proceed? Spray or pad?
thanks for you help!

Hood pad - no question. I replaced the hood pad on my '79 240D over 3 years ago and it looks as good as when I installed it. Perfect fit, etc. And the reduction in engine noise is truely unbelievable. Bought my Hood Pad (p/n: 123.680.06.25) through the local MB dealer.
Cheers,
Jeff
PS - Replaced the hood pad on my '96 SL600 as well - with equally excellent results.

Followup on hood pad
Thanks so much for your help,
I looked at the underside of the hood today and saw that there is residue of the old pad/adhesive here and there. How clean a surface do I need and do you have any suggestions for how to remove the old residue?
thanks!
