'85 300TD revs up when started
My 300TD revs up super fast when I start it. It gets close to 5,000 RPM before I shut it off. Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Open the hood and with the engine off step on the throttle pedal and see if the throttle linkage is moving freely and not binding. There are various springs desgined to apply tension.

Is the shutoff actuator part of the vacuum system? I accidentally disconnected something while changing the oil that prevented it from shutting off. The engine now idles steadily at around 4,000 RPM. What would changing the actuator do?
