Converting a 1981 300D to a 300D Turbo
I have a 1981 W123, 300D. I have looked at specs and need to do more research on the subject. In any case, I have been wondering if I could transform my 300D to 300D Turbo. Isn't the main difference between the 300D and 300TD the header that facilitates the turbo? However, is there any difference in gear ratio? Would anyone have suggestions or has anyone has already done that?

Not if you expect the engine and transmission to live for any meaningful length of time.
Not even remotely. Everything between the oil pan and valve cover was strengthened and/or redesigned.
The only components the turbo and non-turbo engines share are the cylinder head casting, intake valves, timing chain and some bolt-on accessories.
The block, oil system, bearings, camshaft, exhaust valves, crankshaft, connecting rods, pistons, injectors, injection pump (tuning), cooling system, and transmission are all different.
From the 1984 300D brochure.
Yes, nonturbo has a 3.46 rear end, 3.07 in the turbo.
Either a complete engine swap or a complete car swap.
