The Wastegate sets the max boost. Some have added what you call an inline Boost Cotroller on the Hose that goes to the Waste Gate when they felt the Wastegate was opening at a low pressure.
At the end of the Intake Manifold but facing the passanger side Fender is a plug you can unscrew. You can mount what your Boost Gauge Connector there.

You might want to take a look at the superturbodiesel forum for the more radical mods. ForcedInduction is a member of that and a few other forums. He is into what you have in mind and knows a lot about it.

No. The wastegate is adjustable.

Don't. There is a laundry list of points to check and adjust to get the engine and vehicle into good running condition, the ALDA being last on the list.

injector pump adjustments....?
Only after the engine is adjusted to proper spec and a pyrometer is installed.

The wastegate is adjustable but if you want easy adjustability you could go with a simple inline controller and mount it in the cab. Also, If you are just interested in power then there is a process to remove or adjust the fuel rack limiter. THIS IS NOT RECOMMENDED WITHOUT A PYROMETER! But when adjusted properly you can see up to 20hp in the upper rpms. I was told about this by one of the senior members and seems like a good mod as long as you use common sense. Also, be careful adjusting that boost! You may have to bypass the over boost protection solenoid. Again, doing this without a boost gauge and pyrometer is foolish to put it lightly!

Um, whats easier than a screwdriver and 13mm wrench?

You may have to bypass the over boost protection solenoid.
Even with the rack limiter removed, you shouldn't be running enough boost to trip the sensor.

I meant it could easily be adjusted on the fly. Have fun with that 13 mm wrench and screwdriver while your cruising down the interstate.

Why would I want to do that? If you know what you're doing it should only need to be adjusted once, maybe twice if you under/over shoot.

Each mm of thread over the stock position = ~0.7psi additional boost.

3 turns gets you from 9psi up to 11psi, perfect for stock.
Or,
6 turns gets you up to 14psi, perfect for after installing a pyrometer and removing the rack limiter.

Note, the KKK turbo is similar but you only need a 10mm deep socket and 3mm allen key to adjust boost.
The garrett takes about 5 minutes and the KKK takes all of 30 seconds from hood up to closed.

I want/need to adjust the waste gate on my turbo. (1985 300 TD w/ California setup). I don't know if I have garrett or KKK - how do I tell? If it's Garrett, I read that I have to remove a cover with a complicated spring.

My measured boost under load at high RPMS is 7-8 PSI and I would like it to be about 11 psi... 0 to 60 is around 21 seconds at present. Filters all replaced, etc.

set it at 14 psi you'll love it.Any higher needs cold morning or intercooler. To set boost easy on a garret cut waste gate hose, add a 2 way valve,I used a gas valve.

yeah I cut mine back to 16 psi but I control with right foot to 14 psi.I may hit 16 between shifts. But never climb a mountain over 14.
The head bolts are rated to 25 psi.Better to add a Jeep Liberty Turbo to setup.More air, then add Myna pump.

16 and 14 are still far too much.Anything more than 12psi is nothing more than wasting energy and reducing power.

The head bolts are rated to 25 psi.
Incorrect.
