Recently I wanted to check oil and water and pulled the lever.

I heard the cable working, but it didn't unlock the hood, and I can't open it.

What are my options with this problem?

I would try bending a coat hanger with a hook at one end. Then c arefully go under hood or thru grille to pull the latch.Then replace cable or leave coat hanger where you can pull it.

W126 does not have a latch under the grille, there is one to each side.

My 300D is a 123 body.

But I have to know what the latch looks like so I know what I'm feeling for.

Do you know where I can find a sketch of this design?

it looks like a bent index finger with a hole in its tip, you can use a thick metal wire (solid) and bend it to allow the wire to go through the hole and then you can pull the hood release

thanks, I'll keep it in mind.

I actually got it open the normal way one day, and immediately used a lubrication spray on it. Now it opens. Not with the big snap it used to be, but it opens.

Maybe I should replace the spring.

yes you have to replace the spring on under the hood so that it will bounce when you release

its ok at least you live in the usa, parts are plenty, unlike here in asia its very difficult to buy parts here, almost everything is imported, especially for the newer models
