Sell the E420?

Alright, here are my reasons:

1. I'm getting obsessed with the E420. I clean it more than I clean my room, etc. I only drive it in nice weather and when I drive it in bad weather it gets washed right away. *I spend too much time on it*

2. I kind of want something newer and less worrying (something could break out of the blue)

3. I want something faster

Here's the 420

What do you guys think? Convince me to keep it...

or... I have the following vehicles in mind

1. 05 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT - looks awesome, 4wd, good fit and finish, and it's not snobbish, and it's brand new.

2. 01 CLK430 - V8 V8 V8, great looks, nice interior, and it's a Mercedes

3. SLK32 AMG - roadster, quick, good looks, supercharged

4. Porsche Boxster S - same as above but it's a Porsche

5. Chevy Corvette C5 - I've alwaqys wanted this american iron hehe

... I'm in a weird mood.

If you sell it, want to trade me your EVO wheels for my stock wheelies? The buyer will never know!

Holson I've always said you have the greatest looking W124 in the world. If you sell it, make sure it is someone who appreciates it because in the wrong hands, all your hard work can go down the drain. If you do decide to sell it, your new car will be your daily driver correct? I know what New England winters are like and that's probably one of the reasons the Legacy is #1 on your list. For a daily driver I think that would be a great car for you since it'll be good in the snow and rain but still fun when the weather is nice. Practicalness aside... I would buy the Boxster S. My friend has one and I absolutely love it. Everyone talks **** about them like they're not real Porsches but they are pretty quick and handle nicely. If it's a choice between that and the SLK, pick the Boxster. I really like the CLK430 and am actually contemplating buying one myself for my next car. I can't really think of any downside of that for you other than it not being great in the snow. The C5... ohhhh yes. American muscle is something else. I used to have an LT1 Z28 and it was definitely fun. The power is great. The C5 handles pretty well too. In conclusion, in my opinion the Legacy would be your best bet but I would pick the Boxster. I don't mind getting stuck in the snow as long as it's in a nice car! I hope you're happy with whatever you choose to do.

Edit: I just noticed you have an Escort... get the Boxster! lol

Holson I know how you feel. I'am having the same problem with choosing a car (keeping the old 300e though). Your car list is almost the same as mine except I have a few more that I have been looking at;

98-02 bmw 540i 6 spd, 93-98 supra TT again, 1g talon AWD, Mitsubishi lancer EVO (most likely to purchase this one), or W124 e420.

You have a beautiful car. If I were in your shoes I'd keep the E420 and look for another car only because the E420 is a rare E class and the fact that you have taken so much time and energy to keep it in the condition it is in. If you want something fast I'd invest in a race or drag car. Something you can put a decent amount of work into yet won't be disappointed if you mess it up. I hope you don't have too much difficulty making the decision.

I've been in those same shoes for the past cple of yrs. Everytime I contemplate on selling the W124 I end up falling in luv with it over again. My choices were almost similiar

CLK430
Porsche Cayenne(Turbo)

I drove my friend's CLK don't get me wrong it was nice and alot faster and sportier then the W124. But it just didn't feel like a Benz, not solid or luxurious.

I was close to picking up a Cayenne turbo but I had second thoughts over hearing so many quality issues with it.
For now I'll just keep my W124 , keep my ML as a family car.

That's tight Chris, so what does your friend think of the Cayenne turbo?
Sorry to say I have nothing but buyer's remorse after picking up the ML. It was nice the first cpl thousand miles. But the cab noise and just the rickety rackety sound of the body over every lil bump is aggravating. Plus the constant repairs. No comparison to how solid and quiet the W124 or W126 are.

I might sell the ML and pick up a standard
Cayenne and add a Gemballa kit supercharge it..Blk everything out...
Does anybody have any comments about the standard Cayenne?

My friend likes it. I haven't talked to him too much about it. I heard the Cayenne's have a hesitation on acceleration when you step down on the pedal. So you have to push down really hard. I think thats one issue most owners talk about. There are more though. Ill ask.

I know what you mean about the ML. My sister use to have a ML. I didn't like it at all. It was a fast SUV, but the noise, and everything was annoying. Especially when the whole body would literally shack going over bumps, turns and what not.

The normal Cayenne's are nice. Cayenne S. Why Gemballa though? I think TechArt wins me over when it comes to porsche tuning. Just go all out and get the Turbo. You'll be driving a SUV thats faster than a M3 and what not.

Keeping Mine

There are plenty of faster new cars out there, but I have to wonder about what you guys do with all of that speed. I rarely get a chance to really let out my wonderful little E320, so I wonder what you do when you have lots more power and speed. The last couple of days, I have seen police all over the place and I am sure they would swoop down on me in an instant if I blasted off in my car. Not that I would go speeding through neighborhoods or school zones, but I wouldn’t mind letting my foot press to the floor on some open highway or wide open winding country roads. There are just so many cars on the road today and I certainly don’t want to cause any accidents or get any tickets, so I just wonder what I would do if I had the Porsche 911 that I dreamed about before I fell in love with my Benz. If I drove around at 100 mph all of the time, I am sure there would be issues. The other day I saw a beautiful blue Ferrari cruising through our neighborhood. I followed him for a little while and just kept wondering if he ever got out of first gear. Pretty silly, if you ask me.

I am in love with the idea of having an “older car” that is impeccably maintained. Mine is only 10 years old for now, but I hope I still have it when it is considered a “classic”. I think there is a certain amount of pride that only comes from extended ownership and care for a vehicle. I also have to say that I love the perfect combination of sport sedan and utility that my 1995 E320 provides. I wouldn’t be able to comfortably take both my wife and son in a Porsche 911, so half of the time I would end up driving in some silly minivan or SUV. I would much rather take my E320 every day all day. I think the W124 strikes a perfect balance of sport, luxury, and utility. It is just a perfect automobile.

Holson mentioned that he was concerned that “something could break out of the blue” on his E420. I think that is the case with any car, even a new one. It may be a little more likely on a car that is 10 years old, but you can certainly take steps to minimize the likelihood of a breakdown. Just think how much preventive maintenance you can do with the money that you would have to spend to buy a new car. Even the price of an economy car would go a long way to replacing just about anything you think might cause you a problem with your E420.

The Subaru might be fast, but I HATE the LITTLE BOY RACER thing about those cars. I think the Boxster and the SLK are perfect for a girl’s car, but I would have to have a 911 or an SL, if I were to switch to that type of vehicle. I suppose the SLK55 might be OK for a big dude like me, but I still think I would feel a little funny even with the big motor. Corvettes are cool and all, but they are just too flashy for my tastes. They seem like midlife crisis car to me. There is nothing subtle or elegant about the corvette. I am afraid that I think the corvette is just a bit ridiculous.

All of that said if you are tired of your car, then you could certainly trade it for something that excites you more. Just remember that the grass isn’t always greener. You might miss your beautiful E420.

I am not selling mine.

lots of cars
Why!!! just explain to me why? These cars are super safe (to me)!!!!! Why would you trade or sell it for another car??? When i was 18 I sold one of my benzes and I almost cried (a tear came out) seeing it drive away with the new owner!! The only reason i would sell my mb is if i really need money and some one is going to brake my legs if i don't get it or if I crash in it and catches on fire and is hit by lightning!!! So many memories i have with my other cars!! I met my wife with one of them (great cars to pick up girls)!! Sell it but don't ever come again in this forum J/K!
