actually it wont get as dirty as you might think. the paint adheres to the metal thereby blocking the tendancy for the brakedust to settle in the groves and ridges created when it was cast. the paint is also resistant to wheel cleaner so a nice shot of wheel cleaner occasionally when you wash you car will keep them clean.

btw they were super black with all the brake grime b4 i painted them; and these big brakes imho stand out. very few 124's have 4 piston brakes up front.

not 1 problem. a little noisy but the breaking is insane. i have noticed i have used up half my pads since janurary. then again i love to brake really hard and drive tooo fast.

i also notice that the abs rarely comes on now. it takes a lot to lock up the brakes with these calipers.

maybe you had race pads on or something like that.

You can actually use carb cleaner or brake cleaner to clean a lot of things. I try to keep a couple cans handy just in case. Diesel is another good parts cleaner. A soaking bin and a steel brush is all you need.

some of those brake cleaners strip paint. this choke cleaner WILL strip clear coat so be careful. it also neutralizes brake fluid so it doesnt eat your paint.

Just a peek

I can't believe you did all that work cleaning and painting the calipers, but you didn't take the time to wash your car or the wheels to take the pictures. I'm sure you will get around to it. I have also thought that painting the calipers was a bit of waste with the AMG Monoblock wheels, since there really is very little space for the red calipers to show through the wheels. If it makes you happy, however, then it was well worth the effort. I do like the look of a little hint of red peeking out from other people's cars.

omg clean the car. sorry i hurt everyone eyes with a dirty car. maybe next time i will instead of posting a how to i will just clean my car and shoot pics of it.

as far as monoblocks and red calipers; the red shows when u are driving. its not much of a show while you are standing still but when u roll it looks nice.

first question iask myslef before i do a mod to my car; will it make the car go faster, stop better, handle better?
if the answer is no, it can wait. hence, no tint, no loud stereo, no euro lights.

yet. :v

I to like the red calipers! Mine did not involve that much work! Never removed the caliper , just wire brushed the dirt and grime off rinsed down with some brake cleaner and hit them with a can of spray red engine paint! Masked off the rotors and that was it. Has been on for over a year now and look as good as new. I have to agree that keeping them clean is easier when painted!

you mean the eric way. i cleaned mine a year ago before painting them. notice the b12 carb cleaner that cleans just about anything. not only that i dont have those wheels anymore.

why do you have 2 different sets of pictures with different wheels?

my thoughts exactly: stickers + hot brake calipers = no stickers (or burnt, melted goo where the stickers used to be)

I would have used the stickers as a mask. First spray the area you wish to put the logo on w/ high temp paint of your color choice then lay down your decal. Proceed w/ the caliper paint and when everything is dried slowly peel back your decal revealing the first color coat.
