It's called expanded steel. I made one too but im using stainless steel wire mesh that is woven like the jaguar type and my car will look the 300c. Im going to reveal it all after the car is painted and almost finished.

Sorry i have to correct myself. I don't think it matters if it's steel or metal or stainless or whatever because most people on here will have to paint their grilles to make it look nice like zorro AMG or others. Unlike them im going to polish the wires on my mesh grill and black out the chrome frame and use the same metal on the bottom air vents.

Good looking cars guys. Smokie, I finally am finishing the carbon interior, which I am changing some to aluminum (i bought a shifter from you a while back).
Question: I have the Pearl black with lighter grey lower panels which I am going to paint. Mine is a 92 Sportline. First thought is to paint body color which i KNOW will look good. Has anyone gone a bit darker on the bottom to give a bit of a lower looking stance with the heaver color at the bottom?
Now if I can get the guy that is going to paint away from his new wife, I can get this stuff done.

Smokie,
I try and stay away from the hogs but in the past year I have been exploring the inside of an MRI machine a few more times than I would like but that is now calming down to once every six months and also I got my wife a 96 318is for commuting which is taking some time to sort out.
My 300 has had about 1500 worth of stuff done in the past year from the r134 conversion to new (stock) exhaust to new electric aux fans and a valve cover and replacement of the original sparkplugs and wires (150K miles). Also brakes and rotors.
Been a fun year. My painter guy got married to an accountant who does not seem to understand under the table or on the side work (whines about losing her certs) so she keeps him on a very very short leash and I do not have a place to do the paint myself. I am trying to hook up with some other Benzo or Bimmer guys around here but am having no luck. We seem to be short on the car guys for benzos here. So there are no 40-50 year olds to play with which drives my wife nuts as she has to be the 'could you help me with...'person too much.

As a mod, I did just put in a new Alpine receiver with CD, XM and IPod. That really rocks nicely. The original radio was beginning to start cutting out so I figured it was time. It really made a difference. Now I have nearly 5000 songs from my CD collection (thats about 350 disks) plus XM to keep me entertained.

Boy and I thought I had troubles!! Glad to hear things are gettin better. You will have to point that Benz over the mtns. and swing on in here ! I'm a ways past the 50 crowd but I can bench race with the best of them. So I see ya got a Bimmer. I picked up this 94 525i and got it up for sale. It is the first time I have drivin one! Boy I have to say was very impressed. It really handles solid ! I wonder what it would be like with some suspension mods! I believe a road killer .

I bought my material from a metal supplier out of Seattle called Alaska Copper and Brass. It was 1/16th stainless woven wire mesh on 1/4inch spacing, I got it because I had been working around a number of Jaguars and really liked their R-type mesh grilles. Unpainted expanded metal grilles look too much like the Riced Hondas, so I tried for this to be different. There are also a number of different shapes and sizes of holes you can get in expanded metal. Online you can look at McNichols.com I was using them for some materials for one of my construction jobs the other day. It's pretty easy to make, all you need is some time and a pair of good tin snips. I think I spent $27 for my sheet of woven wire. You will need a bent piece of coat hanger though to open the hood. I just keep my "tool" in the glove box.

my coupe is the same as your brothers as far as color and all myfirstbenz. What i plan to do is also do a mesh grille and paint it black but keep the trim of the grille chrome, then get a star emblem about the size of the one on the truck lid and place it in the center in chrome of course and place an amg black and silver badge in place of the star ornament. I bought the car with the ///AMG emblem already on the trunk.

And no I don't have a real amg car and can't afford to go that route but it makes me feel unique that most ricers won't dare bother with me and still its a Benz. Classy is nice but I do wanna represent for my era in time. Would I love to get one of those front bumper spoiler attachments on ebay.

How many of you put their ///AMG badge on the right? How many on the left? The AMG manual on my duck tail said to put it on the left. After i install the ducktail im going to put the O.E badge on my engine to make it look like a real AMG LOL.

the //// A M G badge should be installed on the right side of the trunk. that is its proper home. additionally the "////" didnt come with AMG back in the day. its only after mbz bought them did they add the "////". i am sure if i am wrong cali will correct me.
