Wheel Bolts, C230 whls. to 300E

I tried to install Wheels from a C230 to a 300E and the heads of the wheel bolts potruded out past flush. Do I need C230 Bolts or custom bolts? Any help would be appreciated. Mike, duceee@msn.com

W124's
You probably would need smaller size lug nuts to accommedate those W203 wheels. The bolts you are trying to use are 40mm right? or should I say the stock size for the 300E's

What type of bolts are they? I got a set of bolt on ebay that where 39mm and had a round seat. I still grinded the rear ones down a little to make sure they don't hit my parking brake.

Thanks to you & Chris for the replys. I just found out at Les Schwab Tires that the C230 wheels have a different offset than the 300E wheels. [spinning my wheels, wont work]. Regards, Mike

Yes they do but any wheels with a 32-38 mm offset should fit and the bolt should be a round seat and 39mm long. Look where it says ET and that is the offset.

Hi, Thanks again for the reply. The tire shop told me the back of the wheels were touching up against something. Do I need to add spacers to mount the C230 wheels on my 300E ?? Regards, Mike

The only thing the could rub on is the caliper or the shock Also what kind of wheels are they anyways? You can use 5mm spacers in the rear the front wheels should fit fine. Also what size are they? Make sure you get a hub centric spacer too.

Red face

Thanks again for the reply. I watched the guy at the tire shop try to install a front wheel. It wouldn't go on all the way, it was hitting something. The wheels I want to put on my 1993 MB 300E are off a 1995 MB C230, with 195/65 R-15 H , the same as my 300E. Les Shcawb tires had a complete inventory of all size bolts which solved my initial bolt problem, then discovered the fitting problem. The C230 whls. have a 8 slot design,[8'spokes']and have an ET37 mark on the backside. I failed to check the 'ET' mark on my 300E whls. while they were off. Can this problem be solved with spacers ? Les Schwab did not suggest it to me to add spacers. Maybe I should just sell the C230 whls.and forget about the swap. Regards, Mike

Well the offset on the 300e is 38mm and those wheels are 37mm so they should fit even better but the problem i see is that maybe the design of the wheel makes it hit the caliper also since it's a 15" wheel makes for less space between caliper and the rims. Also the smaller the rims the more you have a chance of hitting then bottom of the shock.

Get bigger rims go to a 16" wheel. I installed some of a 2001 c class sport and the offset was 37mm and have 205/50/r16 tires.
